It tells the story of Tamil migrant workers and a team of land mafia criminals in the city of Kochi. It stars Indrajith, Prithviraj, Rajeev Pillai, Rohini, Parvathi, Rima Kallingal and Swetha Menon.
The film uses the hyperlink cinema format as its narrative structure, a technique first used by Satyajit Ray in his Kanchenjungha (1962). City of God is not a remake and shares no resemblance to the 2002 Brazilian film of the same name, although both use non-linear narrative structure. The film received favourable critical reviews, but it ended up being a disaster at the Kerala box office as it was pulled from the theatres within one week of its release. The film was subsequently dubbed and released in Hindi under the same name.
City of God was one of the first among the "New Generation" Malayalam movies, although the trend was just becoming recognised during 2011. Had it been released a little later, moviegoers and analysts feel the film would have better received at the box office.
Synopsis
City of God starts with a road accident and the story traces the life of the four families who are associated with the accident. Each family has a different perspective on the city of Cochin.Acteurs

Laila and Majnu are two precious stones, which has value only if they are together. It is now possessed by Don, in Goa, who tries to sell it, in order not to lose it to his son, Gabbar, whom he despises. Don approaches two lowly thugs, Pancho and Vinci and offers it for a price of ₹10 crores. They agree and ask for a week's time to arrange the money. Billy, who is Gabbar's man, comes to know of this and offers Pancho and Vinci ₹100 crores to buy it. Pancho and Vinci gets ₹5 crores from Blacky, which actually belongs to the Tarkovs ( the Russian mob in Goa). For the remaining ₹5 crores, they plan to rob the black money of Podiyadis (a local hawala gang in Kerala). While the deal happens, things get mixed up and lead to a big gang war between all the groups.

The story is set in the town of Gurgaon, an industrial city near NCT Delhi. The film is presented from the view of ACP Arya Phogat (Prithviraj Sukumaran). ACP Arya, a police officer, has been brought up by his uncle, DCP Ravikant Phogat (Rishi Kapoor). His father, police inspector Vijaykant Phogat (Anupam Kher), had lost interest in life years back, after messing up an operation to kill Yashvardhan Singh (Jackie Shroff), due to lack of evidence against him. Yashvardhan’s wife, Veera (Tanvi Azmi), had become a police informer against her own husband and had to run away from him with one of her twin children Vishal (Arjun Kapoor) while Ajay is left with Yashvardhan. Vijaykant hides Vishal and Veera – whom he has begun to love – and passes it off as a botched encounter for which he takes the entire blame. Suspended from the police force, Vijaykant has a tough time over the years, caught between the love for his real family and son ACP Arya, and his adopted wife and son. Years later, just before he dies, he reveals to Arya that he has another wife and kid but doesn't reveal their real identity. Vijaykant dies few days later and Arya goes to meet Veera. There he is shocked to see Vishal, who is the exact replica of Ajay (Arjun Kapoor).

The film proceeds as the flashback of an ex-convict Hari (Dulquer Salmaan) narrated to a man he meets at a bus stop on a rainy night. Plus de 300 braquages de banques ont lieu chaque année à Boston. La plupart des braqueurs « professionnels » habitent un quartier de 1,6 km appelé Charlestown. Doug MacRay fait partie du lot, mais, contrairement aux autres, il aurait pu échapper à son destin en refusant de suivre l'exemple d'un père criminel. Au lieu de cela, il a pris la tête d'un gang de durs qui se targue de réussir chaque coup sans répandre le sang. Cette bande constitue sa seule famille ; son « frère » est le colérique et impulsif Jem Coughlin. Tout change le jour où Jem prend brièvement en otage la jeune directrice de la banque qu'ils viennent de dévaliser, Claire Keesey, avant de la relâcher. Lorsqu'ils découvrent qu'elle habite Charlestown, Jem s'inquiète de savoir si elle serait en mesure de le reconnaitre. Sachant son complice capable de tout, Doug prend l'affaire en main. Il entre en contact avec Claire, qui ne soupçonne pas un instant que ce séduisant inconnu, rencontré « par hasard », est l'un des gangsters. Parallèlement, l'agent du FBI, Adam Frawley, est chargé d'enquêter sur ce braquage. Doug revoit Claire et se rapproche de cette dernière, lui racontant la disparition de sa mère et sa carrière avortée de hockeyeur sur glace. Toutefois, Claire lui avoue qu'elle a aperçu le tatouage d'un des braqueurs, qui s'avère être celui de Jem, et qu'elle n'en a pas parlé au FBI. Doug, se rendant compte qu'elle peut identifier Jem, persuade la jeune femme de ne rien dire à la police, car ils ne pourront pas la protéger.

D'un autre côté, Lam l'arme fatale (Spencer Lam) présente sa fille Shuk Fan (Karen Mok) à Poulet, après avoir été de bons amis et une source de conseils pour lui.
