The film mainly is about a tawaif (courtesan or some one who willingly or otherwise adopts the profession of entertaining others for a living), who accidentally enters the life of Dawood (Rishi Kapoor) who already has fallen in love with an upcoming writer (Poonam Dhillon). The situation becomes such that he has to claim that she (the Tawaaif) happens to be his wife. Soon the Tawaaif makes room in everybody's heart by her softness and intelligence, love and affection. It becomes difficult for Dawood as he cannot forget his first love (Poonam Dhillon), nor the Tawaaif (Rati Agnihotri) and also that he cannot tell the identity of Rati to anybody else. However, gradually all problems are solved, misunderstandings removed and Dawood willingly accepts Rati while Suleman Seth (Deepak Parashar) who also loves Poonam, accepts her. The songs of the film were nicely written by Hassan Kamal and composed by Chopra's favourite Ravi. The song 'Tere Pyar Ki Tamanna' and 'Bahut De Kar Di' are very meaningful and ear-pleasing.

Amar Kumar is an eligible bachelor and his parents are looking to match him up. Amar meets Roopa but is more attracted her cousin, Shobha. The girl is treated as a house servant in Roopa's househould. When Amar's feelings become public, Roopa beats Shobha. Frightened, she keeps away from Amar. The man travels abroad for several months; again Shobha is beaten. She escapes from the abusive household and is taken in by Amar's parents. There is a twist, though, she is pregnant and the identity of the father is unclear.

Chaudhary Shambhunath considers the accumulation of wealth to be more important than education. He condones his sister's inattention at school and consequently she grows up anpadh (illiterate). When she finds herself married to a bibliophile her problems really begin. Unable to read the poetry her husband loves and being a rotten cook too, she becomes despised by her husband and her in-laws. Circumstances conspire to leave her homeless, widowed and pregnant. Narrowly escaping from the attentions of a panderer she falls amongst friends and, with the birth of her daughter, she starts on the long road to redemption. An entertaining plea for education in general and for the education of girls in particular.

Hariyali Aur Rasta is a triangular love story among Shankar (Manoj Kumar), Shobhana (Mala Sinha) and Rita (Shashikala). Sunil Mehra (played by Manoj Kumar) completes his medical studies and becomes a doctor. He is kidnapped by dacoits in Himalayas and harassed and left badly hurt. Phoolwa, a village girl (played by Mala Sinha) find him in his poor state and then takes care of his till he becomes fit. He then leaves for his home in the city. But he decides to go back to Himalayas and help poor people who don't have proper facilities and no good medical care. Villagers resist his arrival as they don't trust his modern medicines but believe only in local healers. Worried for him, Sunil's family sends his fiancée Neeta (played by Shashikala) to get him back. Sunil in turn asks Neeta, who also is a doctor, to stay there with him. Firm on his decision, he stays. He also falls in love with Phoolwa.
