Gangadhar Choudhary rules a small community in rural India with an iron hand, and will never permit anyone to speak up against him. He owns most of the land surrounding his palatial home - save for the small patch of land owned by Veer Singh. He summons Veer to his house, and offers him substantial compensation for his land, but Veer refuses, and the Gangadhar has him killed. Veer's widow dies of shock, leaving behind a young Suraj to be brought up by a kindly widow Mrs. Salma Khan, who is also the mother of Iqbal. Years go by, Suraj grows up joins the Indian Armed Forces, and after a meritorious career, he resigns and returns home to avenge his father's death. What he does not know that he must first come to terms with the local Police Inspector Iqbal Khan, and then the wealthy Collector of the District, Rajpal Chauhan, before he can even think of touching a single hair of Gangadhar Choudhary.

Raju (played by Arya Babbar) and Rani (played by Shriya Saran) are neighbors and studying in same college. But they never settle on their differences and always fight. Rani keeps on making complains against Raju and hence his father (played by Kiran Karmarkar) scolds his son as good-for-nothing. However, both families have good relationship. A clotheswashgirl finds a hand in a creek where she was washing clothes. She and other clotheswashmen nearby gather together and summon the police. After an investigation, the police find various parts of this body, and determine it to be that of a young woman. They do not succeed in finding the head of the corpse, and a check with missing persons produces negative results. When Inspector Pyare Mohan, who was assigned to this investigation, receives a threat by an anonymous caller on the phone, he recommends that this file be closed. Then additional evidence surfaces, and the case is turned over to CBI Office Jasraj Patel, who along with his assistant, Gangaram, arrive to take over this investigation. They find out that the corpse is indeed of a young woman, Roshni Choubey. Roshni comes from a poor family of four unmarried sisters. Roshni seemed to be involved with several men, including Dr. Kamal Dogra (Ashutosh Rana), Mohan Multani (Aditya Pancholi), Captain Ajit Verma (Milind Soman) and Bishen Nanda (Akhilendra Mishra) - all of who have a motive for killing her and disposing off her body. Who is the real killer - is the challenge that now faces Jasraj, apart from the telephonic threat that he too has received from the anonymous caller. Patel delves into the case even more deeply, putting his life at risk as the killer is constantly trying to bump him off. Eventually, Patel concludes that Roshni might not be killed by any of the men she was involved with.

This film is remake of famous Kannada film Gejje Pooje starring Kalpana. Courtesan Madame Subbalaxmi heads a household where men are not born, but are welcome. Women are not welcome, but their birth is. Subbalaxmi is thrilled when her protege, Sangeeta, gives birth to a baby girl, who they name Chandra. Shortly thereafter they relocate to a small community. Sangeeta wants Chandra to study, and she is allowed to do so. Chandra meets her neighbor, Kunal, and their family, and is welcomed by them. Problems arise when Kunal and Chandra fall in love, as neither Kunal's family, nor Chandra's courtesan family will permit this marriage.
