Nanda (8 January 1939 – 25 March 2014) was an Indian film actress who appeared in Hindi and Marathi films.She was best known for her performances in films like Ittefaq, Joru Ka Ghulam,Neend Hamare Khwab Tumhare, Kanoon, Pati Patni, Gumnaam, Akashdeep,Bedaag and Raja Saab.
In 1992, a middle-aged Nanda became engaged to director Manmohan Desai at the urging of Rehman. But he died after falling from the terrace of his rented flat in Girgaon, just a year after her mother died of cancer. According to reports, the railing he was leaning on collapsed. Nanda remained unmarried.
Nanda lived in her residence in Mumbai interacting only with family and close friends. Her close friends from the film industry included Waheeda Rehman, Nargis Rabadi, Asha Parekh, Helen, Saira Banu, Mala Sinha, Shakeela and Zabeen Jaleel. After a long time she made a public appearance with Waheeda Rehman for a screening of the Marathi film Natarang (2010).
She died in Mumbai on 25 March 2014 at her Versova residence, aged 75, following a heart attack.

In 1965, while filming Jab Jab Phool Khile, director Suraj Prakash recalled that a Maharashtrian lieutenant colonel was smitten by Nanda and had asked him to forward his marriage proposal to her mother. In the end, nothing came of it. Nanda's brothers brought home many suitors for her, but she turned them all down.In 1992, a middle-aged Nanda became engaged to director Manmohan Desai at the urging of Rehman. Mr. Sinha (Nazir Hussain) changes everything in order to maximize profits. This brings him into conflict with his employees including Dinanath Saxena. This film is remake of famous Kannada film Gejje Pooje starring Kalpana. Courtesan Madame Subbalaxmi heads a household where men are not born, but are welcome. Women are not welcome, but their birth is. Subbalaxmi is thrilled when her protege, Sangeeta, gives birth to a baby girl, who they name Chandra. Shortly thereafter they relocate to a small community. Kalpana (Nanda) is a daughter of a rich man who always worries that his daughter might fall in love. Hence he always controls her not to talk with men. But Kalpana does not care about it. She leaves for her uncle's house to continue her studies. In the city Kalpana visits an art gallery and gets attracted by a painting of an artist named Rajesh (Rajesh Khanna). She gets angry when a photographer tries to get sketch without her consent. Meanwhile an aspiring artist who works for an assignment for ad of the company where Kalpana's uncle work. Due to the deadline pressure he sketches Kalpana for the ad without her knowledge as he was not satisfied with the models he saw. The next day Kalpana's picture get published in newspaper and Kalpana gets angry on that. She finds that the sketch was portrayed by artist Rajesh and her anger goes away. Both of them become good friends and then eventually fall in love. Kalpana's father comes to know about this and he lies to her that Kalpana's mother is ill. Kalpana rushes to home but to find it was her father's lie as he does not want his daughter to be away anymore. He arranges for Kalpana's marriage with a son of rich man who looks like an elephant. Kalpana runs away to Rajesh and insists to marry her. Rajesh initially refuse as his financial background is not stable but finally agree on Kalpana's compulsion. Both marry and settle with their life.

Shankar (Manoj Kumar) loses his first wife (Nanda) in an accident. She died while saving her son (Deepak). Due to the accident Deepak loses his voice. Shankar wants to hear Deepak but it is only possible by an operation. So, Shankar tries hard to collect money for the operation. After much struggle Shankar gets the money for the operation. The operation gets started, and becomes successful. After one day of the completion of the operation Shankar asks the doctor to meet Deepak, but the doctor suggests him to meet Deepak a day later. To pass the time Shankar goes to factory, where in the excitement to meet Deepak he loses his control and get injured due to which he loses his hearing power. The father, who only lives to hear his son, becomes deaf when his son gets voice.
