Rann (English: Battle) is a 2010 Indian political thriller film that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sudeep, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Gul Panag in the lead roles and Paresh Rawal in a negative role. The film, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, focuses on Indian media. Rann received positive reviews, and was premiered at Toronto International Film Festival.
Synopsis
Vijay Harshwardhan Malik (Amitabh Bachchan), the ethical CEO of struggling television channel India 24/7, is losing the ratings battle with a rival channel headed by Amrish Kakkar (Mohnish Behl). Malik's son Jai (Sudeep) makes a deal with a wealthy and corrupt politician, Mohan Pandey (Paresh Rawal), to frame the Prime Minister (K K Raina) for being complicit in a terror attack. Pandey can then take over the position and Jai will have enough money to start his own channel. Jai's brother-in-law (Rajat Kapoor) supports Mohan Pandey because he wants to become the biggest industrialist in the country and Pandey could help him by framing such policies. Jai shoots a short video featuring his friend Khanna and a close friend of the PM. This meeting is staged and the PM's friend, under duress, says that the PM was involved in plotting a bomb blast so as to create fear and panic among the people so that he could get a bill passed. Jai convinces his father that the story is true and believing it to be so, Malik airs it on his network. The scandal rocks the nation and elections are held in which Mohan Pandey wins. He becomes the PM. However, one of Malik's reporters, Purab (Ritesh Deshmukh), discovers the plot. He initially approaches Amrish Kakkar with a request to air his findings on the news. Amrish, though, cuts a deal with Mohan Pandey and does not air the CD. Purab then tells his boss of his findings on the day his son is getting engaged. Malik goes on air one final time and confesses the wrongdoings of his son, son-in-law and exposes Mohan Pandey. Unable to bear the guilt, Jai commits suicide. Mohan Pandey denies his role in the scandal. Malik steps down as the CEO of the news channel and hands over the baton to the reporter who exposed the truth.Acteurs

Phoonk is based upon the concept of black magic. Civil engineer and atheist Rajiv (Sudeep) lives in Mumbai with his family of wife Aarti (Amruta Khanvilkar) and two kids, Raksha (Ahsaas Channa) and Rohan (Shrey Bawa), with Rajiv's mother and the housemaid Laxmi(Anu Ansari). Rajiv's most trusted colleagues are Anshuman (Kenny Desai) and Madhu (Ashwini Kalsekar), whom everyone, including Rajiv's friend Vinay and Raksha feel are not normal. Mumbai is in the midst of a turf war between two gangs, collectively referred to as the Mumbai underworld when Satya (J.D Chakravarthy), a man without a past, comes to the city looking for employment. While waiting tables at the local dance bar, he gets involved in a scuffle with Jagga (Jeeva), bag man for dreaded don Guru Narayan (Raju Mavani). Jagga takes his revenge by getting Satya arrested on false charges of pimping. In jail, Satya clashes with yet another member of Mumbai's mafia, underworld don Bhiku Mhatre (Manoj Bajpai), who is in prison pending trial for the murder of a prominent film producer. Mhatre, pleased with Satya's bravado, extends a hand of friendship and arranges for his release as well as accommodation. With Mhatre's help, Satya avenges himself by gunning down Jagga in the very same dance bar and joins Mhatre's gang.

Riots and violence cause deaths and destruction in Mumbai city but the Chief Minister Balraj Chauhan (Amrish Puri) because of some political motive, does not take any preventive step. TV reporter Shivaji Rao (Anil Kapoor) in a telly interview of Chauhan publicly brings to light the CM's disregard towards the elimination of the recent violence and his total failure as a CM working for the growth and development of the state. Chauhan, just to stick up for his political image, says to Rao snapping his fingers, "Sirf ek din... sirf ek din ke liye CM bannke dikhaao", (Become the CM just for a day), something that later became a popular and theoretical political concept in India where edification in political and social arena is a crying need. Rao accepts Chauhan's challenge and emerges as an efficient CM wiping out various socio-economic problems of the state and dismissing the corrupt government employees. Rao's beloved is played by Rani Mukherjee.

Shankar prend rapidement conscience des avantages que la centrale pourrait apporter à la population. Seul inconvénient : le projet nécessite un déplacement d’une part importante de la population. Après avoir convaincu Sarkar qui était contre le projet, Shankar entreprend un voyage avec Anita jusque dans les villages du Maharashtra pour convaincre les habitants. Cependant, l’entreprise de Shankar se heurte à de multiples obstacles et devient progressivement un champ de mines politique. Le régime de Sarkar est affaibli et le nom de Shankar est effacé de l'horizon politique.

Abhinav décroche son premier rôle et devient vite célèbre tandis que Reva ne décroche toujours aucun contrat. Cette situation crée la discorde dans le nouveau couple, d’autant plus que les ambitions artistiques de chacun diffèrent : Reva souhaite être reconnue pour son talent et ne veut travailler que sur des projets novateurs, loin des chorégraphies habituelles de Bollywood. Abhinav ne recherche que la célébrité sans se soucier des rôles qu’il doit interpréter. La séparation arrive lorsque Reva refuse l’aide d’Abhinav pour décrocher enfin un contrat.
