Synopsis
On the Beat consists mainly of a series of vignettes involving members of a local precinct in the Beijing Public Security Bureau. Filmed in the slow months of December, January, and February the members of the PSB find they have little in the way of substantive police work. Instead they spend time (and manpower) on small incidents like the chasing of a possibly rabid dog, the arrest of a small-time con artist, and the reprimanding of a man who sells posters of a woman in a bathing suit.Acteurs

Alors que l'inspecteur Huang Wei (Tony Leung Ka-fai) revient d'une mission à l'étranger, un terrible événement se produit : son supérieur se fait assassiner sous ses yeux mais lorsque le meurtrier regagne sa voiture, celle-ci explose, ne laissant qu'un seul doigt comme indice. Huang découvre que ses empreintes digitales proviennent d'un criminel récemment tué qui pourraient être celui d'un détenu exécuté deux ans plus tôt. Il s'infiltre alors dans une prison pour y trouver les coupables. Une faune très particulière, faite de violence, l'attendra dans ce lieu étrange. Ces détenus comprennent Lung (Jackie Chan), qui a accidentellement tué un homme alors qu'il essayait de recueillir des fonds pour l'opération qui sauvera la vie de sa petite amie, Lau (Andy Lau), qui a volontairement été jeté en prison pour venger son frère tué par Lung, Kiu (Jimmy Wang Yu), le chef des prisonniers, et Fatty (Sammo Hung), un détenu s'échappant souvent pour rendre visite à son jeune fils.

Durgeshwari Devi (Hema Malini) is a very rich and proud lady. She stays in her palace-like home with her two sons Dheeraj and Neeraj, her daughter Rekha (Madhuri Dixit), her brother, nicknamed DDT (Anupam Kher), and his close friend, nicknamed BBC (Satish Kaushik) along with her personal secretary, Shakti. Rekha studies in a medical college in Bombay. Durgeshwari Devi has full control over her home and company and is feared by all. Her ambitions of wedding Rekha in a rich family like hers seem to fail when Rekha falls in love with Raja (Anil Kapoor). Raja is an unemployed, poor but smart and educated man. Durgeshwari seeing him to be a smart fellow puts a condition for agreeing to the marriage which would humiliate him and thus back out. She asks Raja to live with them after the marriage and not other way round where the bride goes to live at groom's home.
