Shikar is a 1968 Hindi movie produced and directed by Atma Ram. The film is a murder mystery that became a box office hit and its songs were also big hits. The film stars Dharmendra, Asha Parekh, Sanjeev Kumar, Helen, Rehman, Bela Bose, Ramesh Deo and Johnny Walker.
The film's music is by Shankar Jaikishan and its songs were penned by Hasrat Jaipuri. Asha Bhosle won the Filmfare award for best Female Playback singer, for the arabic tuned song Parde Mein Rehne do, while Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle sang the duet song Jabse Laagi Tose Najariya.

Synopsis

Manager Ajay Singh find out that a man by the name of Naresh is murdered and inform police inspector Rai, but all evidences are tampered with at the crime scene and as a result the murderer became difficult to trace. From here on Ajay's life takes a new turn in trying to find the culprit who have murdered Naresh, in the process he meets a young woman, Kiran who have some crucial evidences that might lead Ajay to the culprit who have murdered alcoholic and womanizer Naresh.

The film is based around a middle-class man, Rajesh (Bachchan) living with his sister. He is in love with a young woman, and he intends to marry her once he has found a potential husband to take care of his sister. However, one day the sister is raped and murdered and the police are unable to find any clues and it is left to Rajesh to find the murderers and avenge her death. He traces the murderer and kills him, and is therefore now on the run from the police himself. Rajesh abducts a child as a hostage and seeks refuge in a house only to later learn that the child is the son of his former lover, who is now married to a Police Inspector. Rajesh is torn in two - whether to release the child, or to use him to make an escape.

The plot is an intricately woven one. It starts from childhood with the story of Ashok (also called Shoki by his childhood friend Vinod) (Dharmendra) who is a wealthy industrialist's only son. He is passionate about cars from childhood befriends Vinod (Vinod Khanna) who is passionate about trains; its his dream to make India's fastest train. Rakesh (Vinod Mehra) shares same passion as Vinod. Randhir (Danny Denzongpa) is in a tussle from childhood to make a better train than Vinod's. Childhood turns into adulthood and one day both attend a dance function organised by the Indian Railways. This is where Ashok and Vinod fall in love with two beautiful women: Seema (Hema Malini) and Sheetal (Parveen Babi). Ashok is now deeply in love with Seema and they are planning to get married after their engagement. Vinod is married to Sheetal and they have a son Raju. One day Vinod, who is now a top notch railway engineer, gets awarded with the contract to build a super-fast express train between New Delhi and Mumbai. Rakesh (Vinod Mehra) is his assistant. Randhir, the losing engineer and ex-lover of Sheetal, swears revenge and leaves.

Sunil (Dharmendra) lives with his mother and sister a middle-class life in Delhi. He works for Chopra & Co., Chartered Accountants. He comes across a beautiful woman posing for a painting, and thinks she is poor and needy, and gives her a tip. The woman's name is Anita, and both are attracted to each other. Rohini (Sarika) is an aspiring actor who is caught shop lifting in a hopping complex. Ranjeet (Marc Zuber), who was watching Rohni, comes to her rescue by pretending to be her partner and they both leave the venue together. Rohini tells Ranjeet of her deep hunger to be an actress while struggling to make ends meet. Ranjeet offers to make her an actress as he owns a theater and produces shows, at the same time making advances towards her. Rohini accepts and returns his sexual advances for lead role. Director of an upcoming play berates Rohini who catches the attention of another actor/director Rakesh (Sanjeev Kumar). Rakesh helps Rohini pick the nuances of acting and she turns into a fantastic performer. They fall in love and get married, however a freak stage accident injures Rakesh, who while trying to protect Rohini loses his eyesight. While in hospital Rakesh undergoes therapy to come to terms with his blindness and a nurse Sita (Ranjeeta Kaur) helps him learn to read braille and move around using a stick. Despite his efforts to lead a normal life Rakesh becomes depressed due to his condition and dislikes people taking pity on him, ultimately taking refuge in his wife's love and dedication towards him who has quit theatre to take care of her blind husband.
