Simi Garewal (born 17 October 1947) is an Indian actress and a talk show hostess. She is known for her work in the films Do Badan, Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Siddhartha and Karz. She is also known for her celebrity talk show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal.

Biographie

Garewal had her first serious relationship at the age of 17, with then Maharaja of Jamnagar, who was also her neighbor in England. In the early 1980s, Garewal dated Salman Taseer, a Pakistani businessman.

Garewal was married to Ravi Mohan of Chunnamal family from old Delhi but her marriage was short and she is now divorced.

The story focuses on Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna), who is currently an assistant director, hoping to write and direct his own movie soon. His friend Raju (Arshad Warsi) is a struggling actor who has been waiting for Shekhar to write a film script so he can star in. However, when Shekhar rejects him as the film's hero, Raju decides to steal Shekhar's film script and release the film under his own name. The film is released and turns out to be an blockbuster, leading Raju to stardom. Heartbroken Shekhar, at this time, is left by his girlfriend Mansi (Amrita Rao). Lack of confidence, Shekhar writes an new and better film script and wants to star Raju in it, however when Raju rejects the script, Shekhar decides to film the movie without Raju knowing he is in it. Shekhar and his low-budget film crew follow Raju around everywhere to complete their movie. Eventually, when the movie is finished, it turns out that Raju's role in the film was embarrassing and humiliating, and turns Raju into a box office bomb. Shekhar's film succeeds and he is offered more movies. Raju turns into a flop, and decides to steal someone else's script.

The movie was based on the famous Arabic love story of Laila and Kais. Kais-E-Emir (Sanjeev Kumar) is the son of Emir-E-Yemen (Nazir Hussain). Laila (Nimmi) is the daughter of Emir-E-Basra (Jayant). Kais and Laila love each other since childhood.As a child Kais was so intoxicated in his love for Laila that when his teacher asked the students to practice the word Allah in their books, Kais kept on writing the word Laila instead of Allah . Allah is the Arabic word for god .The teacher became angry and hit Kais on his palms with a stick . At the same time, Laila began to bleed from her palms . The teacher believed that this was a miracle which proved that Laila and Kais were meant to be with each other .The lovers want to get married but their families hate each other since many generations. Laila and Kais meet each other in the desert on a regular basis .The people gossip about their love and Laila's name is tarnished . Her father forbids her from leaving the house. Laila's house is surrounded by armed guards and she cannot venture out to meet Kais. Kais sends a messenger pigeon to Laila .His letter tied to the pigeon's leg discloses that he is on his way to meet her at her house . Laila's father reads the message and becomes furious to see the audacity of Kais. He orders his guards to kill Kais if he ventures into their territory. Laila scared for the safety of Kais sends her maid Nauheed (Nazima) to forewarn Kais of the impending danger. Laila's father Emir-E-Basra goes to the house of Kais and threatens his father that if his son Kais dares to venture into his territory, he will be killed by the guards of Basra. Kais's mother ( Lalita Pawar) sends their Abyssinian slave (Amjad Khan) to rescue Kais. Kais is grievously wounded by the guards. Kais is brought home where he is tended to his wounds. Laila's father decides to relocate to a new city away from Kais. After a number of days, Kais's health improves and he leaves his home in search of Laila. He wanders across the deserts and practically loses his sanity . People start calling him 'Majnu' meaning—a crazy obsessed lover . Laila's father forces her to marry Ign-e-Salaam (Pran).Laila refuses to allow her husband to come near her.Laila is distraught to be separated from Kais. She is comforted by Gazala (Simi Garewal) who advises her to visit a nearby dargah .It is said that if a devotee prays earnestly, the prayers would be fulfilled. A Dargah (Persian: درگاه dargâh or درگه dargah) is a Sufi Islamic shrine built over the grave of a revered religious figure, often a Sufi saint or dervish. Eventually, Laila visits the dargah where she prays with great fervor . She sees an extremely tired, sick and dying Kais outside the dargah . She embraces him and they die in each other's arms.

Ravi Kant (Sunil Dutt) is a doctor who lives in New York with his wife Anuradha (Smita Patil), also a doctor. Anuradha is doing research into leukemia. Ravi is nostalgic about India and decides to return there when he receives an offer for a position as the head of surgery from Tata Memorial Hospital in Bombay. Anuradha wants to continue her research and does not want to go to India. Ravi returns to India after a divorce with Anuradha. Anuradha discovers that she is pregnant with Ravi's child but Ravi is unaware of the fact. In India, while treating one of his patients Bhardwaj, he meets his daughter Asha (Reena Roy). Just before his death, Bhardwaj is promised by Ravi that he will marry Asha. Asha and Ravi are married. Asha dies while giving birth to their daughter (Khushboo). Soon after Khushboo's eleventh birthday, she is diagnosed with leukemia. On a recommendation from a fellow doctor at Tata Memorial, Ravi takes her to a hospital in New York where Anuradha is her doctor. To cure her cancer, Khushboo must have a bone marrow transplant from a donor with matching blood group and genes. Shashi (Anuradha's son) is found to have a perfect match and he donates the marrow. Ravi discovers that Shashi is the son of him and Anuradha. In the final scene, everyone comes together at the airport when Ravi, Khusboo and Shashi are coming to India. Anuradha joins them as well.

Naseeb, a story of destiny and fate, begins with a lottery ticket. A drunk who cannot pay his tab trades: so he decides to sell his ticket to the waiter, Namdev (Pran), instead. Namdev purchases this ticket with his three friends Damu (Amjad Khan), Raghu (Kader Khan) and Jaggi (Jagdish Raj). Using a system of drawing out the highest card to decide who keeps the ticket, Jaggi wins, and the ticket stays with him. When the ticket turns out to be a winner, Damu and Raghu turn on the other two, murdering Jaggi and framing Namdev. Namdev goes on the run but Raghu and Damu intervene and throw him over a bridge into a river and Namdev is presumed dead.

The plot is an intricately woven one. It starts from childhood with the story of Ashok (also called Shoki by his childhood friend Vinod) (Dharmendra) who is a wealthy industrialist's only son. He is passionate about cars from childhood befriends Vinod (Vinod Khanna) who is passionate about trains; its his dream to make India's fastest train. Rakesh (Vinod Mehra) shares same passion as Vinod. Randhir (Danny Denzongpa) is in a tussle from childhood to make a better train than Vinod's. Childhood turns into adulthood and one day both attend a dance function organised by the Indian Railways. This is where Ashok and Vinod fall in love with two beautiful women: Seema (Hema Malini) and Sheetal (Parveen Babi). Ashok is now deeply in love with Seema and they are planning to get married after their engagement. Vinod is married to Sheetal and they have a son Raju. One day Vinod, who is now a top notch railway engineer, gets awarded with the contract to build a super-fast express train between New Delhi and Mumbai. Rakesh (Vinod Mehra) is his assistant. Randhir, the losing engineer and ex-lover of Sheetal, swears revenge and leaves.
