Wara Wara (« Étoile du sud » en aymara) est un long métrage muet bolivien tourné en 1930 par le réalisateur José Maria Velasco Maidana. Équivalent d'un blockbuster actuel, le film fut tourné dans des paysages spécialement construit pour l'occasion, avec des acteurs en costumes recrutés parmi la crème des artistes et des intellectuels boliviens du temps, dont le peintre Arturo Borda, le sculpteur Marina Nuñez del Prado et le poète Guillermo Viscarra Fabre. Le film, qui avait disparu, a été reconstitué à partir de négatifs retrouvés dans une vieille malle. C'est le seul film bolivien de l'ère du cinéma muet à avoir été préservé.

Synopsis

Le film raconte l'histoire d'un amour impossible entre Wara Wara, une princesse inca et Tristan de la Vega, un conquistador espagnol.

Danny O'Rourke is the son of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Eager to join the police force, Danny fails his exams. The failure causes him to neglect his sweetheart Maggie, whose father is a police lieutenant. His attentions turn instead towards society girl Miriam Welton. When Danny’s sister, Shannon, is arrested for shoplifting, Danny turns to boxing to save her. He works his way towards the championship but discovers the final bought has been rigged. Danny fights anyhow and he is beaten, but it is discovered that a mistake had been made on his exams and he actually was eligible to join the police force after all.

Vicky Kapoor (Amitabh Bachchan), the only son of multi-millionaire industrialist, Amarnath (Pran), grows up to be an alcoholic, a spoilt brat but with a good heart.
