The film, which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival on 4 May 1987, won the OCIC Award at the 1987 San Sebastián International Film Festival and a German Camera Award for Jürgen Jürges.

Albert (Perry King) is the chauffeur and lover for a wealthy pianist, Sills (Peter Donat). When Sills finds another chauffeur/lover, Albert is forced onto the streets of Los Angeles. Stella (Meg Foster) is a real estate agent who knows Sills and Albert as repeated rental clients.
