Andrew Arbuckle (September 5, 1887 – September 21, 1938) was an American stage and film actor. He was the brother of Macklyn Arbuckle and cousin of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle.

Biographie

Arbuckle married Blanche Duquesne, daughter of French immigrants, in October 1915. They had no children.

As described in a film publication, several years earlier Mrs. Sheldon (McDowell) had been deserted by her husband. She brought up her son Robert (Hughes) in the belief that his father was dead. His desire to make good in the city leads his mother to send him to his father, Willard Thatcher (Kilgour). Unknown to him, Robert is now working for his own father, and all goes well until he learns of his father's nefarious financial schemes. They end up fighting, and Willard tells Robert that while he is married to his mother, Robert is not his son. Willard is accidentally killed, and on the evidence of Fan Baxter (Blythe), Willard's woman, Robert is condemned. A last minute forced confession from Fan by Robert's mother saves the day.

Amy Burke vit à New York sur la 5e Avenue chez son riche grand-père Alexander Guthrie. Elle le contrarie lorsque, à la veille de leur voyage en Europe, elle décide plutôt d'aller vivre avec son père, un sociologue, dans les bas-fonds de l'East Side, où il peut faire des observations en vue d'une publication. Bien qu'au départ elle soit dégoûtée par son nouvel environnement, Amy finit par apprécier le fait de jouer au "craps", de danser le "shimmy", et de fuir la police. Elle se lie d'amitié avec John Graham, qui a fait de la prison parce que des financiers, dont Alexander Guthrie, en ont fait un bouc émissaire de leurs malversations. Elle se déguise alors en garçon et, avec John, ouvre le coffre-fort de son grand-père. Ils sont pris avec des papiers qui innocentent John. Guthrie, qui s'était déguisé pour surveiller Amy et s'était de ce fait adouci en l'observant, promet de réparer ses torts. Amy et John se marient.

As described in a film magazine, Peggy (Minter) gives her father (Arbuckle) a surprise visit and after the lavish style he has maintained her in at boarding school, she is amazed to find the business he runs in such a dilapidated condition. She starts a new system of doing things and soon the grocery store starts making a profit. Clyde (Forrest), son of the ruthless and wealthy landowner Roland Gardiner (Stockdale), meets Peggy and falls in love with her. His father disapproves of her and insists that the son marry Maude Greenwood (Shelby). A storm plays havoc with the Gardiner mountain home, leaving them without food or supplies, and Maude and her mother depart in anger. Roland Gardiner seeks refuge in the little grocery store, and after Peggy takes advantage and provides some provisions at outrageously inflated prices, comes to the conclusion that she is the right girl for his son after all.
