Biographie
Duff had a tempestuous relationship with actress Ava Gardner in the late 1940s. In 1951, he married Ida Lupino. After he was listed in Red Channels as a communist subversive in 1950, he lost his radio work and might have forfeited his entire career had it not been for his marriage. They had a daughter, Bridget Duff (born April 23, 1952). They separated in 1966 and divorced in 1984. He subsequently married Judy Jenkinson. Duff was a staunch Democrat.Ses meilleurs films

Remarqué après une périlleuse opération de sauvetage en mer, le lieutenant Tom Farrell est engagé par le secrétaire à la défense, David Brice, comme agent de liaison avec la CIA où il rejoint son ami de collège, Scott Pritchard. Lors d'une fête à Washington Tom commence à fréquenter Susan Atwell, amante de David Brice, dont il devient rapidement l'amant à son tour. Quelques mois plus tard Susan est tuée accidentellement suite à une dispute avec David Brice. Détruisant toutes les preuves, Brice et Pritchard font passer sa mort pour un meurtre commis par un espion russe du KGB qui se cacherait parmi les rangs de la CIA. Tom Farrell, chargé par Scott Pritchard de débusquer cet espion, se retrouve au pied du mur, car il sait qu'une telle taupe n'existe pas, et que toutes les preuves remontent inlassablement à lui et à sa liaison.

After a series of murders in San Francisco that all take place inside closets, a reporter and his scientist friend decide to uncover the mystery and save California. The film contains many comical and subtle references to homosexuality. The title references the state of being a closeted gay, the creature's sudden smitteness and affection for the handsome leading man even though there is no other indication that the creature is female, and the film ends with it collapsing and dying while "marching on San Francisco."
