Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai is a tale of a budding actress (Veena Malik) who is over motivated to become a successful in Bollywood. The story starts with Mr. Dabu who is a middle aged man in his forties, a total loser absconded and is being left unaccompanied in life. All of a sudden he gets rich after hitting a roll-over prize of birthright, and then decides to walk off to this actress to share his destiny and his future in the company of her. The starlet gets surprised and shocked after witnessing so much of wealth with him in cash. She initially agrees what his boyfriend had planned out to con Mr. Dabu, but is totally puzzled on what to carry out. They both sooner or later travel to the mysterious island, which is further followed by her boyfriend and a couple of unknown friends. The entire journey is filled with full humor, enjoyment and entertainment.

The story focuses on Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna), who is currently an assistant director, hoping to write and direct his own movie soon. His friend Raju (Arshad Warsi) is a struggling actor who has been waiting for Shekhar to write a film script so he can star in. However, when Shekhar rejects him as the film's hero, Raju decides to steal Shekhar's film script and release the film under his own name. The film is released and turns out to be an blockbuster, leading Raju to stardom. Heartbroken Shekhar, at this time, is left by his girlfriend Mansi (Amrita Rao). Lack of confidence, Shekhar writes an new and better film script and wants to star Raju in it, however when Raju rejects the script, Shekhar decides to film the movie without Raju knowing he is in it. Shekhar and his low-budget film crew follow Raju around everywhere to complete their movie. Eventually, when the movie is finished, it turns out that Raju's role in the film was embarrassing and humiliating, and turns Raju into a box office bomb. Shekhar's film succeeds and he is offered more movies. Raju turns into a flop, and decides to steal someone else's script.

Young Vijay studies in Good Shepherd High School, lives a wealthy lifestyle in a small scenic town along with his uncle, who is the Inspector General of Police in Bombay, and has a close friend in Raj Malhotra. When both mature, Vijay gets married, while Raj marries Shanti. On his uncle's insistence, Vijay departs to live in Bombay, where he eventually becomes the Police Commissioner. Subsequently Raj, Shanti, and Raj's brother, Sanjay, also re-locate to Bombay, where they are united with Vijay. Then Sanjay falls in love with Jenny and both want to get married much to the chagrin of Mahesh, who wants to marry her at any and all costs. Mahesh is the only son of wealthy and influential Kedar, who manages to convince Edward that it will be Jenny's and Sanjay's best interest if Jenny weds Mahesh. The marriage is arranged, but on that very day, Sanjay steps in, humiliates Kedar, and marries Jenny. That night Sanjay is arrested by none other than Vijay himself and placed in a cell. The next morning he is released and returns home to find that his brother and Bhabhi are both dead.
