Kunchan is an Indian actor, primarily concentrating in Malayalam films. He has already done over 650 films in Malayalam language itself. Usually he does minor roles. He has also done important character roles. He started his career when Malayalam films were made in Black and White format. He made his debut with Tamil film Manaivi (1969) which went unreleased and his first release was Rest House released in 1970. Recently he has also done Kamal Haasan' s Manmadhan Ambu.

Rani Padmini is a film that showcase's feminist strengths with the exuberance and beauty of Himachal Pradesh and surrounding areas. Afsal (Dulquer Salmaan) is a lazy fellow who sleeps till 11AM. His mother (Geetha) is so worried about him. Once, when his uncle comes from Salalah, Oman, he tells him that he can get a job over there. Afsal rejects it saying 'Working is slavery'. He tells that he want to set a mobile shop and needs fund for it. His uncle accepts it with one condition that the shop should be named 'Salalah Mobiles'. Afsal appoints his childhood friend Binoy (Jacob Gregory) as his assistant. There was a bus stop in front of the shop and every morning a college going girl (Nazriya Nazim) comes there. Afsal falls in love at first sight. He comes to know that her name is Shahana and his childhood classmate and enemy Manaf has a crush on her.

The movie opens with ACP Antony Moses aka Rascal Moses (Prithviraj) getting into an accident which causes him, a partial memory loss. Before the accident, he had solved the murder case of his friend, Assistant Commissioner Aaryan John Jacob (Jayasurya), who was killed during a gallantry awards ceremony at police/parade grounds possibly by a Long range rifle. Antony gets into the accident while talking to his senior officer and brother-in-law Farhan Ashraf (Rahman),Commissioner of police. He tells him that the case is solved. But, before giving the name of the murderer, accident occurs. Farhan tells Antony, about his past and the tragedy occurred to their friend, Aaryan. He reassigns Antony Moses, back to the case. Antony re investigates the case during which he finds out the murderer.

The film proceeds as the flashback of an ex-convict Hari (Dulquer Salmaan) narrated to a man he meets at a bus stop on a rainy night.
