Dr Sunny is a psychiatrist who is engaged to his girlfriend Annie. One day a girl named Reshma is admitted to Sunny's hospital by her brother Roy, who is a close friend of Sunny. Gradually Sunny finds out that she was traumatized after witnessing her boyfriend getting beaten to death by some of his colleagues. Sunny helps her to recover, but soon Reshma becomes obsessed with Sunny and falls in love with him. At the end, she kills Annie because of her illness.

The movie shows how a young woman Padmini(Madhavi) who is separated from her husband gets attached to a young orphan girl Gigi(Sonia) when they meet in a hospital during their stay after a bus accident. Gigi has lost her mother in the accident and Padmini decides to take Gigi with her. Gigi is not completely mentally stable and is a special needs child. Padmini brings Gigi to Dr. Padmanabhan (Mammootty) who after initial apprehension accepts Gigi in his institute as a student by the day. Gigi gradually improves and Padmini is peaceful. Padmini's separated husband Sethu (Lalu Alex) is still trying to win her back. The viewers are shown that Padmini separated from her husband because she lost her children due to an episode of reckless motorcycle riding from husband. Padmini decides to go back to Sethu and adopt Gigi as their daughter. However Gigi's special behavior annoys Sethu and Gigi starts to feel insecure about losing her mother again. The movie goes on to show Padmini's emotional turbulence.

The movie starts with Khaled Muhammad aka Baba(Sharat Saxena) in jail telling one of his henchmen to kill the kerala chief minister Ravi Menon(Murali).Sahadevan(Dileep) is the son of a police constable(Oduvil Unnikrishnan) who works in the dog squad. Sahadevan has only one ambition and that is to join the police department and for that he has cleared the exams and is waiting for the physical test. But he has an enemy, his own brother-in-law Peethambaran(Jagathy Sreekumar) who does not like him.Some of Baba's henchmen with the help of commissioner Gauri shankar(Ashish Vidyarthi) plan to kill the CM by placing a bomb in his room in the hospital when Ravi Menon was unwell.However Sahadevan foils the plan as his dog Arjun sacrifices himself. The blame is put on him by the police commissioner but he is saved by the DGP(Vijayaraghavan). Because the commissioner is aware of Sahadevan's knowings about the bomb plan,he along with Peethambaran deliberately fails him in the physical test. When he finds out who the crooks are, he tries to find a way to foil it and that hope was to become a private detective via his uncle Karamchand(Captain Raju). He becomes a private detective and calls himself CID Moosa,Shortform of Moolamkushiyil Sahadevan. He has a funky car that do different tricks to assist him in evading his enemies. During all of this he falls in love with a girl named Meena (Bhavana).After innumerable attempts,he makes her fall in love with him.Meanwhile,he managed to intercept the first terrorists who planned to place the bomb in the hospital. Gauri in anger destroys Moosa's office saying it doesn't have license.When Moosa goes to the CM for a petition,the CM's car explodes.Moosa is applauded for saving him.Then he kills the second terrorist and gets a Rs.5 lakhs as a reward. Meena then told Moosa that those terrorists were sharing tenants in her house and filed a case to the commissioner not realising that she would be arrested as soon as she reached her flat.the commissioner tries to molest Meena but Moosa intervenes to save her.Later Gauri forces the CM to issue a warrant against Moosa which he reluctantly accepts.On the way home,Ravi Menon sees Baba on the road(he gets released from jail).Moosa meets the CM to prove his innocence but Baba enters to assault the CM and shoots him in his arm.Moosa takes the CM to safety in his cars and uses the different tricks and devices in his car to evade the police.Then he gets intercepted by Gauri and Baba but kills them using his wits and a little help from his dog.The CM is saved and now Moosa is sent to Scotland to solve bigger cases.

The story is around Ramachandran (Mukesh) who comes back from Dubai to the village posing as a rich business man with a fortune. Raghavan Master (Sreeraman), a scion of a high Adiga Brahmin family and an ardent communist, is now in crisis as his Tharavadu is devoid of the fame and fortune it once had. Balachandran Adiga is his only son, who has the burden of looking after his family and his four nubile daughters. He is aware of the difficulties involved in bringing the family back from the brink of nothingness and in marrying off his sisters. Balachandran's eldest sister Shobha does some tailoring and manages a low earning with which the family is kept out of hunger. Balachandran is engaged to Sumithra, his cousin and childhood pal, but in the turn of events, one Thripran Namboodhiri (Salim kumar) comes with an offer to marry his niece to Balachandran, thereby agreeing to make him a secretariat staff and thereby save their sinking family. Sumithra forces Balchandran to risk their dreams for the sake of his family. He is forced to forget his murappennu and childhood playmate Sumitra(Kavya Madhavan) and is compelled to marry Surabhi(Samvrutha Sunil), a girl from a rich family, to tackle the serious economic adversities that his family faces. Notwithstanding the family chaos, Balachandran's younger sister Shubha walks out with Adivasi leader Sreedharan on the day of Balachandran’s marriage, causing irreparable damage to the family reputation, following which his mother dies. Sumithra finally marries a cruel and corrupt police officer who is always doubtful on the character of his wife.

Thampi (Thilakan) retired as an accountant from Indian Railway in mid-1980s following his son's death leads a solitary life in his ancestral house. Thampi's grandson Bhasker aka Pachu (Jayaram) had completed his medicine studies from Bangalore. Thampi is excited when his grandson Pachu, comes along with his friends- Lopez (Rahman), Renjith Menon (Ashokan) and Krishnankutty (Ajayan) to spend his vacation with grandpa. Their presence brings joy and happiness into Thampi's house. Pachu is engaged to a girl, Bhadra (Keerthy) who happened to be the granddaughter of Thampi's friend. During the vacation Pachu and his friends often goes to the nearby beach for a swim. During one such visit Pachu and Lopez gets pulled into the ocean and only Lopez manages to escape. The Police and the locals conduct a rescue operation in the ocean but in vain. It is believed among the locals that whatever that is taken by the ocean is returned on the third day (as meant by the title of the movie). Thampi refuses to acknowledge the fact that Pachu is dead and puts on a brave face, consoling Pachu's mother, his friends and Bhadra. Eventually the body is found on the third day. The funeral is held on the same day and Pachu's friends gets ready to leave the day after. They all visit the beach one last time to say goodbye to Pachu where they see Thampi arriving with priests to perform the funeral rites of Pachu. While performing the "bali", senile Thampi who lost all his hope and out of despair he takes the rice ball/"balichoru" in his hands proceeds to the sea. To everyone's shock Thampi along with the "balichoru" submits himself to sea and commits suicide.

Kaimal and Susheela are leading a troubled married life. The latter is unsatisfied with the ignorance from her husband. Susheela, a mother of two children, indulges in a physical relation with a car mechanic named Giri. On an unfortunate day, she elopes with Giri to start a new life. After the incident, Kaimal is harassed by many of his friends and colleagues. Balan, a friend of Kaimal, helps him to get a relief. Balan tries to bring back Susheela, who was still having an unsatisfied life with Giri, to Kaimal's life. He arranges a meeting between Susheela and Kaimal in a beach. But, they found Kaimal dead after being stabbed by himself with a knife.
