Beau Bandit is a 1930 American western film, directed by Lambert Hillyer, from a screenplay by Wallace Smith, based on his short story, Strictly Business. It starred Rod La Rocque, Mitchell Lewis, Doris Kenyon, and Walter Long. The story is based loosely on the legend of Robin Hood.

Synopsis

Montero is a bandit who, along with his deaf-mute sidekick, Coloso, are planning to rob a bank. They are pursued by "Bob Cat" Manners and his posse. As they close in on the bank, owned by Perkins, Montero becomes involved in the personal affairs of Helen Wardell and her fiancé, Howard. Perkins is also interested in Wardell, and he also holds the mortgage on Howard's ranch. Finding out that Montero has a price on his head, Perkins uses that fact to coerce Montero into agreeing to kill Howard. Perkins, however, has no intention of paying Montero, instead arranging for the posse to capture the outlaw.

L'action se passe en 1865. Gurko Lanen, commandant des forces armées du Lichtenburg est devenu le dirigeant de fait du pays, malgré l'opposition de la Grande Duchesse Zona et de son premier ministre, le Baron Von Neuhoff. Ce dernier confie à la souveraine le soin d'approcher Napoléon III afin qu'il intervienne militairement pour chasser Gurko. Trahi par son secrétaire, Von Neuhoff est emprisonné et Zona poursuivie. Malgré l'intervention fortuite et incognito du Comte de Monte-Cristo qui tombe sous le charme de la jeune femme, cette dernière est reconduite au palais. À l'occasion d'une rafle, Monte-Cristo entre en relation avec la résistance qui publie un journal clandestin, "la Flamme". Nous apprenons alors que Monte-Cristo est en mission au Lichtenburg afin de négocier un prêt important avec Gurko. L'occasion pour lui de s'infiltrer au palais, de tenter de libérer Von Neuhoff, et de revoir Zona est donc toute trouvée, il s'y présente sous l'aspect d'un banquier farfelu, dandy et non violent. Grâce à la complicité d'un officier de la garde acquit à la résistance, et qui connaît les passages secrets du palais, Monte Cristo parviendra à faire évader Von Neuhoff. Gurko fomente alors un plan machiavélique, il signe un accord avec la Russie qui lie l'obtention d'un prêt d'argent, au maintien de l'ordre et à la présence du général à la tête du pays. Parallèlement Gurko demande la main de Zona, celle-ci refuse mais quand le général lui annonce l'accord, elle accepte contre son gré afin d'empêcher le pays de sombrer dans le chaos. Monte-Cristo et la résistance après avoir subtilisé la copie russe de l'accord, vont alors s'efforcer d'empêcher ce mariage.

When impoverished Nanette Roland refuses to marry Buck McDougall until she is convinced that her long-absent fiancé, Raoul Challoner, is dead, Buck obtains false evidence of Challoner's death and Nanette yields to his wishes. At their wedding ceremony, Raoul appears and is about to take Nanette away, when Buck attacks him and, in the ensuing battle, Raoul accidentally kills a man and is arrested. That night, Nanette helps him escape and, after a hasty wedding, they flee into the wilderness. Corporal O'Connor of the North-West Mounted Police is given the assignment of capturing him, and three years later, the Mountie, aided by Buck, discovers Raoul's cabin in the woods. Just as he arrests the fugitive, a forest fire breaks out, trapping Nanette, Raoul and their baby in the flames. O'Connor, injured by a fallen tree, is rescued by Raoul and the four reach safety, but Buck perishes in the fire. O'Connor, feeling a debt of gratitude, agrees to testify to Raoul's death and the family realizes that their troubles are at an end.
