Do Chor (Hindi: दो चोर, Urdu: دو چور, translation: two thieves) is a 1972 Hindi/Urdu film produced by Raj Khosla and directed by Padmanabh. It stars Dharmendra, Tanuja, Shobhana Samarth, K.N. Singh and Jalal Agha. The music is by R.D. Burman and the lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri. The film was well directed and it did good business at the box office.

Synopsis

A series of mystery burglaries are taking place in the homes of four wealthy men. The burglar takes a single piece of jewelry from each of the men, but not touching the cash and other jewelry, and leaving the calling card of a swastika. The police suspect Tony (Dharmendra), generally known in the community as a thief, but he claims innocence. He tries to find out who the real burglar is and catches Sandhya (Tanuja) stealing from one of the wealthy men. She tells him that she is taking back what is really her inheritance, as these items belong to her mother (played by Tanuja's real-life mother Shobhana Samarth), since these four men swindled her mother after her father's death. Her mother is now in a mental institution. Tony and Sandhya fall in love. He helps her recover all of her items and put the wealthy men behind bars. Sandhya's mother is well again. Tony and Sandhya promise to start a life together after they finish their respective short jail stints.

Rajesh is a scientist. He is injured following instructions of Dr Sharma in a secret experiment & granted leave. Rajesh lives with his dog, cook Bhola and loves Rita. Intelligence chief Mr Roy & his assistant Mr D'Mello ask Rajesh to take the murder blame of Sharma so that miscreants after Sharma's research can be caught. Roy devises an escape plan for Rajesh but it goes wrong & Rajesh is kidnapped by Shetty and taken to Mozambique. Rajesh is imprisoned and a look alike named Garson is sent to India. Garson is with blue eyes and a voice different from Rajesh's. Garson uses contact lenses and gets a neck cut to portray lost voice. His unconscious body is found in an Indian sea. Rita accepts him as Rajesh although she has some misgivings after he touches the feet of another lady instead of Rita's mother. Rita is pregnant with Rajesh's baby. Garson is given a similar mole as Rajesh. Rajesh's dog and cook realise what has happened, so Garson kills them to avoid their exposing him. The authorities are also less trusting. Rest needs to be seen.

On the run from the police, S.S. Kumar, a thief, comes across a private invitation to the island of Sir John Locksley addressed to Raja Bahadur Singh. When the Raja is shot, Kumar takes him to a nearby hospital, dons a Sikh's turban, poses as the Raja's son and goes to the private island of Sir John. Also attending are K.P.W. Iyengar aka Romeo, Dr. Dubari, Colonel Columbus, and Countess Sylvia Rasmussen. A stunned Kumar finds out that all of these invitees are master criminals and thieves. Kumar's guise does not fool anyone, including his former sweetheart, Sheila Enders (Zeenat Aman), nevertheless Sir John permits him to stay on, as he feels that Kumar's career, though an amateur, is consistent with those already present. The reason why John has invited them is to find a successor to take his place as he is dying of cancer. He feels that one of his invitees can be trusted to take his place and for this he has arranged for them to steal a ruby (Shalimar) worth 135 crores of rupees. This gem is placed in a secure room within his palace, which is alarmed, and guarded by armed men 24 hours a day. The ruby itself is located within a display case of bulletproof glass and surrounded by a minefield. He challenges one of them to steal the shalimar - but if anyone fails then they are killed by the security system. Pitted against such veterans, it looks like Kumar has got himself into a bind that he may not come out of alive.
