K. N. Singh (born Dehra Dun, Uttar Pradesh, British India 1 September 1908 – 31 January 2000) was a prominent villain and character actor of Hindi films. K. N. Singh came to acting by way of law, giving up his first career in 1937 to pursue his newfound interest in performance. More often than not, Singh found himself portraying a "gentleman" type of villain, usually costumed in a fine suit and hat, and smoking a pipe. His style included expressive eyes and sarcastic remarks as a ruthless but articulate villain, often playing roles of evil genius, mafia dons who have a double persona to the rest of the world. He also played positive roles in C I D (starring Dev Anand-Shakila), Wo Kaun Thi and Agent Vinod starring Mahendra Sandhu. His career spanned six decades and included over 200 films.

Arjun Singh (Dharmendra) is a dare -devil upright cop who believes in dealing strongly with criminals. D.I.G.Khan (Shammi Kapoor) does not agree with his ways and there is always a disagreement between the two. Arjun is sent on a special mission to Shanti Nagar which in under the police scanner due to some shady activities going on there. On reaching Shanti Nagar, Arjun sees that it is ruled by a wealthy businessman, Deen Bandhu Deena Nath aka D.B.D.N., who has very high contacts. He has terrorised the town with the help of his convoy of uniformed men who kill the citizens at will. Arjun realises that D.B.D.N is none other than Mangal Singh, the corrupt police officer who had killed Arjun's father (Parikshit Sahni) when Arjun was a child. Arjun gets thirsty for D.B.D.N's blood but is stopped by D.I.G Khan. But when D.B.D.N kills Arjun's young son (Jugal Hansraj), Arjun with the help of D.I.G Khan sets out to overturn the evil rule (Hukumat) of D.

Kaalia (Amitabh Bachchan) lives with his older brother (Kadar Khan), sister-in-law (Asha Parekh), and their little daughter. He spends his time idly playing with the neighbour's kids. His older brother gets into accident at work at the mill and loses his arms. He loses his job and needs money for treatment. Kaalia begs his brother's boss (Amjad Khan), but he refuses. Kaalia breaks into the boss' safe to get the money but it's too late as the brother dies. The boss throws Kaalia in jail for nine months. This is where he meets the men that teach him crime (kallu se kalia ka safar shuro hota hai). After his release, Kaalia is a different, stronger man. He and his accomplices steal the gold that the boss had been smuggling at the mill. Then he burns down the mill as retribution for his brother's death. He goes to jail again, this time for 2 years. His accomplices lie to his sister-in-law by telling her that he is in America earning a lot of money for her and her daughter. They move from poverty into riches. In jail, Kaalia meets the warden (Pran), a smart, ethical, strong man, whose daughter was kidnapped by one of the prisoners when she was little. After Kaalia is released from prison, he is bent on seeking vengeance and eventually pairs up with a woman (Parveen Babi). The boss kidnaps Kaalia's niece and forces her mother to testify against Kaalia in a murder trial. He is found guilty for a murder he didn't commit and escapes from prison to find his niece. At first, the warden chases him and once he knows the true story, decides to help him. They go to the boss's place and not only find the little girl but also the sister-in-law about to die. The boss reveals to the warden that he was the one who had kidnapped his daughter 20 years ago and now it's the grown up Parveen Babi's character. They fight with him and the boss gets beaten up badly. Everyone lives happily after.

Prakash (Navin Nischol), a librarian, lives with his daughter. One day, his friend and private detective Captain Usman (Suresh Oberoi) visits him and gives him a diary along with a dagger (Khanjar) to safeguard them. He also informs about their importance for a case under his investigation and threatens by some gangsters about them. Soon after this, Prakash learns that Usman is murdered. He also receives a call from a stranger enquiring about Usman's diary and the dagger. Meanwhile, a smart girl named Preeti (Reena Roy) starts to flirt and get closer to him to know about the diary and the dagger. Prakash notices her acts, illustrates to the police the story of Usman's diary, the dagger, his murder and Preeti's attempts for them. They instruct him to follow her to learn about the gangsters she works with. Upon his insistence, Preeti informs about her activities under the instructions of Prince (Amjad Khan). Soon Prince learns about her behaviour and kills her. After few days, his brother-in-law Ramesh (Shekhar Kapur), married to his younger sister Jyothi (Rita Bhaduri), is also found murdered. Disturbed by these mysterious murders leading to the dagger, Prakash and his magician friends Jagat (Mehmood) and Rasvanti (Jashree T.) visit an old town Udaigarh, famous for Swamiji (Amjad Khan). One mystery leads to a deeper mystery and a series of thrilling events unravel the mystery of the khanjar.

Amirchand (Prem Chopra) is a successful businessman and lives a single parent life with his two daughters Harsha (Baby Pinky) and Varsha (Reena Roy). He has his family roots in his paternal village, where he goes to meet his parents (Kanhaiyya Lal and Leela Mishra) once in a blue moon. On one such vacation, Amrichand is stopped at the village outskirts by some villagers, who ask him to pay respect to a local peepal tree, which is considered to be holy. In a small town, situated in a picturesque Indian valley, lives a corrupt Deputy collector, Hare Murari, an equally corrupt Police Superintendent, Pasupathi; a doctor; a Judge; & Professor Rampyare. When a young man named Prem Pratap seeks a license for conducting a song and dance sequence, he too is asked to bribe them, which he does. Subsequently, Hare Murari finds out that Prem Pratap may be a Government Official who has come incognito to investigate and expose them. Hare Murari's and the others worst fears are realized when they find out that Prem has been speaking long distance with none other than the President of India. What follows is hilarious chaos as the officials come together to try and portray themselves as honest and law-abiding citizens.

Dharam Chand (Amitabh Bachchan), an ameniable village farmer is thrilled when his wife, Radha (Waheeda Rehman) gives birth to a baby boy, whom they decide to name Raju. Dharma heroically saves the lives of Ajit (Anwar Hussain), and Sujit (Sujit Kumar) and Suresh when they are being attacked by a tiger and they graciously offer him a job in Bombay (now Mumbai) whenever he decides to visit. When the village experiences economic crisis and drought, the family migrate to Bombay, where Ajit makes Dharma the manager of his warehouse in the city. Dharma succeeds in the job until he is arrested by the police. His cries of innocence are ignored by the authorities and he is sentenced to 18 months in jail plus an additional six months for contempt of court. When he eventually returns home, everything has changed. His wife and Raju are near destitution. Laxmi (Heena Kausar) has been raped by Sujit and has killed herself. Dharma decides to avenge her death and kills all the three of them. He then joins forces with another gang where he is rewarded for his loyalty and soon makes his way to the very top. He sends Raju for further education to Britain and moves into a palatial home. Years later, Raju (also Amitabh Bachchan) returns home and would like to marry Geeta Verma (Neetu Singh) whom he met in Britain but is unable to meet his father's approval and comes into conflict. Unknown to Dharma, Ajit is still alive and has returned and it is time to avenge the past by trying to murder Dharma at any price.

Rajesh Khanna is in love with Mumtaz in their college days.
