Synopsis
Evie Harris (Jack Plotnick) is a washed-up, alcoholic, aging C-List actress (star of kinescope, stage, television, and film in such works as the TV special Christmas Evie, vaudeville-era appearances promoting 'Dr. Vim's Miracle Elixir,' Court TV: Celebrities Who Kill, Tabitha and the sad 1970s disaster epic Asteroid [tagline: 'Earth Might Get Crushed!']). She lives in a tackily out-of-style bungalow with Coco (Clinton Leupp), a homely, lonely, doormat of a spinster who carries a torch for the handsome young doctor who performed her abortion years ago.Acteurs

Guy Stone (Matt Letscher) is blissfully closeted, picking up tricks for one-night-stands, while capturing the country's heart as "America's most eligible bachelor" (starring in such films as The Love Barrel and I Married the Ghost). However, Guy's carefully managed façade collapses when he comes up for the lead in S.R.O. studio's version of Ben-Hur. Things turn sour for the film idol when a fellow actor, Freddie Stevens (Jack Plotnick) (famous in the film for portraying "Captain Astro" in a succession of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon-type serial films), decides to steal the lead in Ben-Hur from Guy by taking a picture of Guy exiting a gay bar. Freddie plans to out Guy to the world and ruin his career. Jerry (Veronica Cartwright), Guy's repressed lesbian ball-bustingly ambitious agent, connives to cover up the impending outing and ensure Guy the role in Ben-Hur by marrying her client off with great fanfare to the studio head's secretary, Sally (Carrie Preston), who just happens to also be a slavishly devoted Guy Stone fan. However, Sally isn't aware the marriage is a sham.

Jenn, a yoga instructor, and Matt, a comic book store worker, are best friends from college who are now single and in their 30s. In agreement with a pact they made in their youth, the two decide to have a baby ("gayby") together, even though Jenn is straight and Matt is gay. Jenn's grandmother set her up with a trust fund for if she ever had a child, so Jenn is confident that she and Matt will have the finances to have one. However, Jenn states that she wants to have a baby through natural conception, so the two begin awkwardly having sex. Matt is recovering from a devastating break up with his partner of six years, Tom, who is a rising comic book publisher. The plot begins in a remote village in Tamil Nadu named Pannaipuram (the birthplace of director Venkat Prabhu). Melvin Udall est ce qu'on peut appeler un « sale type », provocateur, insolent et égoïste. Cet écrivain, reclus dans son luxueux appartement de Manhattan, rédige à la chaine des romans sentimentaux à succès. Il est par ailleurs atteint de troubles obsessionnels compulsifs, ce qui fait de lui un asocial. La seule personne qui semble le supporter, sans pour autant le ménager, est Carol Connelly, serveuse du restaurant dans lequel il a sa table attitrée. À la suite de l'hospitalisation de son voisin Simon Bishop, agressé chez lui, Melvin se trouve obligé de s'occuper du chien de celui-ci, Verdelle. De plus, ne pouvant plus s'occuper de son fils malade, Carol est contrainte d'abandonner son poste de serveuse. Bousculant toutes ses habitudes et manies, l'obligation de s'occuper d'autre chose que lui-même amène Melvin à nouer peu à peu des relations avec ses semblables.
