Janwar (Animal or Wild) is a Hindi film released on 1 January 1965, starring Shammi Kapoor, Rajendernath, Rajshree and Asit Sen. The movie was produced by Hardeep and directed by Bhappi Sonie. The music is by Shankar Jaikishan are lyrics by Hasrat Jaipuri. The movie was a lighthearted romantic musical that further enhanced Shammi Kapoor's stature as the youth icon of the times.

It is notable for a rendition of the song "Dekho ab toh kisi ko nahin hai khabar", set to the tune of the Beatles song "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".

Synopsis

Mr. Srivastava lives a very wealthy lifestyle with his wife and two sons, Mahendra and Sunder. He plans to get his sons married to women from equally wealthy backgrounds. Mahendra falls in love with Seema, who is poor and lives with her stepmother. This creates considerable acrimony in the family, and Seema is not accepted as a daughter-in-law. Unable to find a solution, Mahendra takes to alcohol and falls in the bewitching clutches of a beautiful courtesan named Bahaar.

After being unsuccessful in finding her true love in her own country, India, the rich Deepa (Sharmila Tagore) goes to Paris, France in search of it. Rajendra lives a poor lifestyle along with his younger collegian brother, Shekhar, as well a younger sister, Meena. Shortly thereafter misunderstandings crop, lead to arguments with Shekhar and Shobha moving out to live with Shobha's dad. Then Rajendra is fired from his job, his paternal uncle takes over the house, and asks him to leave. Homeless, they turn to Shekhar for help, but he refuses to assist them in any way. Then Rajendra falls ill and gets separated from his sister, while Shekhar takes to horse-racing and alcohol, and a path that will only lead to self-destruction.

The story starts in 1942 against the backdrop of war. Shobha (Nirupa Roy) and Asha (Veena) are friends married to two pilot officers (Rehman and Iftekhar). Shobha is pregnant and her husband extracts a promise from her that if it’s a boy she will make him join the Air Force. The next morning the families have to vacate the Air Force station due to war activities. The two pilots are killed when their plane is hit during a mission. Shobha lives with her mother-in-law in Kashmir and gives birth to Deepak. The grandmother fusses over and spoils Deepak. Shobha has to finally send Deepak to a boarding school as he gets into bad company and plays truant from school. The mother-in-law dies leaving Shobha alone to fend for herself. Deepak (Biswajeet) grows up to be an excellent student with a promising future in business. Against his own wishes he joins the Air Force when his mother reminds him of the promise she had made to his father.

Then there’s the moment of unity for actor brothers, Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar which was heartwarming for more reasons than just their screen presence together.

Neeta is an heiress, the only daughter of U.K. based Industrialist, Jagat Narayan. She is of marriageable age, and is being wooed by Kailash, Chandra, and Raja. Things take a dramatic turn when Jagat and Neeta find out that Raja is not who is claims he is. Raja alias Roop must now make attempts to prove himself, and realizes that this is indeed an uphill task.
