Jugnu (Hindi: जुगनू; Urdu: جُگنُو; Firefly) is a 1947 Indian film directed by Shaukat Hussain Rizvi. The film stars Noor Jehan, Dilip Kumar, Gulam Mohd., Sulochana (Sr.), Latika, Zia, Jilloo, Agha, Shashikala and now famous playback singer Mohammed Rafi. This film was the first major hit for Dilip Kumar who went on to become one of Indian film industry's legends.
Both Shaukat Hussain Rizvi and his wife Noor Jehan settled in Pakistan shortly after the film was released.
Synopsis
Sooraj is from a wealthy household. He meets Jugnu when he's tried to commit suicide by jumpung off a cliff and jugnu tries to stop him. In reality it was a ply conceived by sooraj and his friends to distract jugnu and all the girls so that they can steal the food prepared by the girls. All of them study in the same college and live in hostel. And thus slowly on meeting few times Jugnu and Sooraj fall in love with each other. Jugnu is orphaned when she was young and is taken care of by a friend of her father's who wishes for her to be married to his son Dilip. Sooraj's parents come to know about his love for jugnu and oppose the match as jugnu is poor. One day in conversation with his father sooraj comes to know that they are not rich as all the assets (bungalow, things etc) owned by his father are mortgaged under heavy loan and so he plans to arrange marriage of Sooraj to a rich household so that the dowry received will help them pay off loan and continue living a wealthy life. Sooraj is surprised to hear this but he nevertheless is happy as now he can marry Jugnu as both are poor. But Sooraj's mother goes to jugnu and pleads for her son's life explaining her predicament and jugnu promises her that she will get out of sooraj's life. What happens next is the central plot of the story.Acteurs

Shahenshah Jalaudin Akbar is the grandson of Babur, and the son of Humayun. He is known to have ruled over Hindustan with a humane and just heart. He knew in order to garner the support of the Hindus, he must treat them sensitively, allow them to worship freely, and in order to maintain this peace, he married Jodabai, a Hindu Rajput, the sister of Raja Man Singh. Through this marriage they became the proud parents of Shehzada Salim. Akbar first met Nadira in the Anar garden, while she was awaiting the arrival of her lover. So pleased he was with her that he wanted to reward her, but she only asked for an Anar, so he ended up bestowing her with the name of 'Anarkali'. He met her the second time when she was able to revive Salim, who was seriously wounded in a war in Kabul. Once again Akbar was pleased with her, wanted to reward her, but again she turned him down. The third time she ended up annoying Akbar when she sang and danced in his court under the influence of alcohol, and he has her imprisoned. The very foundations of Akbar's palace will be shaken to the roots, and his manner of meting out justice will be put to the extreme test, when he finds out that Salim is in love with Anarkali and wants to marry her.

This was mainly a Noor Jehan musical about a man seduced by a gold-digging woman, who then kills her and her lover is jailed. When he is released, he finds employment as a gardener and becomes a father-figure to his employer's son Anwar and to Anwar's fiancee Zeenat (Noor Jehan). This allows him to prevent Anwar from perpetuating precisely the same crime for which he had been jailed as history repeats itself because, so the film alleges, men are constantly threatened by women and only paternal wisdom can save them from the untoward desires of women. Future directors Ramesh Saigal and S. K. Ojha assisted on this film.

Kashi travels by an ill-fated plane, which crashes on the outskirts of an isolated city that is ruled by women, who worship Sanga, their God. Kashi is rescued by pretty Soni and taken to her home, where she lives with her widowed dad, and brother, Hira. Since the roads are blocked, Kashi is unable to return home, and in order to continue to stay here, he must first obtain permission from the Raj Rani, the ultimate ruler. He meets with her and she finds him attractive and charming, and invites him to stay with her at her palace and sing for him, which he does. Kashi and Soni have given their hearts to each other, they meet secretly, with Soni disguised as a man, Shibu. Watch what happens when Raj Rani finds out that a Kashi is ignoring her love for a mere peasant.

After her widower dad, Kedarnath, passes away, Shobha goes to live with her fathers friend, Charandas and his wife, Shanta, who had their son go missing as a child. Two Adivasi tribes are in conflict for the local economic rights. The daughter of the Nagi tribe's chief, Mala (Vyjayanthimala) vows to kill the son of the Ragi tribe's chief, Sanatan (Pradeep Kumar) as revenge. Trespassing the enemy territory, she is mesmerized by music of a flute (played by the musician Kalyanji Virji Shah). Coming closer, she finds out that the singer is Sanatan. They fall in love, but find it difficult to appease the enmity between the two tribes and to resist the attempts of the villain Prabir (Jeevan) to marry Mala.
