Shyam (Mohanlal), is a silver tongued but essentially likeable weasel. He's a flirt, engaged to Sreekutty (Menaka). Unnikrishnan (Dileep) owns an old bus, received as a compensation for his father's road accident and he is facing lots of consequences due to the pathetic condition of the bus. He sold many valuable things to maintain this bus. His friend Sundareshan (Harisree Asokan) was his only companion and the cleaner of the bus. A mouse had eaten the passport of Sundareshan and had spoiled his chances of going abroad. Some part of the film's comedy involves Sundareshan running behind this mouse for his revenge. A live TV show, in which Unni bad mouth of a Traffic Sub Inspector, Veerappan Kurup (Cochin Haneefa) lands him in more trouble, when the former commands Unni to leave the city with the bus. Sreedhara Kaimal, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, and advocate and well wisher tries to him help him with a bank loan to run a mobile kitchen (Tattukada) from his bus.

Madhu aka Madhavan (Jayaram) is a successful playback singer. Chandramathi (Urvashi) is his illiterate, rustic, betel-chewing wife with a bad habit of spitting in wrong places, and they have four children. It can be described as incompatible matrimony but still a happy one. Madhu loves his wife even though they are out of sync because she has brought him luck. Here enters Lekha (Mamta Mohandas), a sophisticated urban model-cum-singer, who finds a place in the hearts of all the family members. Chandramathi thinks Lekha will be the perfect wife for her husband and a good mother for her children. How she goes about her plans of uniting Madhu and Lekha forms the rest of the story.
