The film stars Vinay Rajkumar, son of actor Raghavendra Rajkumar, in his debut, along with Apoorva Arora in the lead roles. The film has the musical score and soundtrack composed by V. Harikrishna. The film, launched officially on 2 May 2014 and released across cinema halls on 23 January 2015.

Aa Dinagalu is a story about the Bangalore underworld of the 1980s. In the film, Agni Shridhar narrates the preview as story of Kotwal Ramachandra era (1975) coincidentally with declaration of emergency by Indira Gandhi, which led to grooming of M. P. Jayaraj as the uncrowned don of Bangalore mostly working with Knives, Sickles, Machetes for terrorising people. Eventually he seems to have got jailed for contempt of court for 10 years. When he returns in 1985, after the death of Indira Gandhi he finds Kotwal Ramachandra to have taken his spot. In this backdrop how a love story finds its place has been shown in the movie.

The film is about Surya Narayan (Jeet) who was once a software engineer but quits his job to give it to his friend and is unemployed in the city of Cooch Behar. Poulomi (Sayantika Banerjee) is a girl from Kolkata who studies in college and comes to Cooch Behar for her vacation to stay with her elder brother Madan Mohan (Kharaj Mukherjee) and his wife. Surya falls in love with Poulomi at first sight and starts chasing her to win her heart and enters the upper portion of their house as tenants with his brother, Upendra Narayan (Biswajit Chakraborty) and sister in law (Tulika Basu). In this process Surya will have clash with local rowdy Shanatan Panja (Tamal Roychowdhury). Mistaking him to be one tapori, Poulomi hates him first but later on she realizes his true nature . She returns to Kolkata and lives with her older brother (Ashish Vidyarthi), a former builder and now a very powerful rowdy who is very possessive and protective about his sister. Surya follows Poulomi to Kolkata and works his way into their house with the help of Madan Mohan and finally both of them confess their love. There, Surya knows the flashback of Poulomi and how she is being chased by the notorious and cruel Tony Bharadwaj (Mukul Dev) assisted by his uncle (Supriyo Dutta) for marriage. Surya fights Tony, Poulomi's older brother kills Tony, and Surya marries Poulomi.

Badal (Bobby Deol) is a young man with a tragic childhood. IPS Officer Abhiraj Roy a.k.a. Abhi (Dev) is a daring super-cop in Mumbai. He is on a mission to apprehend a mafia don, Guru Nayak (Ashish Vidyarthi), who is involved in illegal drug trade, extortion, and arms trafficking. His father, Debraj Roy (Tapas Paul), who was a politician driven by idealistic values and a sense of social service, met with a fatal accident. Bagavathi (Vijay), owns a tea shop cum hotel near Chennai High court. He lives with the aim of bringing up his younger brother Guna (Jai) as a doctor. He befriends a modern girl Anjali (Reemma Sen) while giving a refill to her. She doesn't know that the refill is valuable for Bagavathy and so casually throws it. He admonishes her for that and with the help of a receptionist gets it back. Anjali initially thinks that he is stingy. But later when she sees him helping a lady whose daughter has gone into labour and subsequently beaten up by a policeman, she gains some respect. Soon Bagavathy finds out that Anjali is the daughter of a Judge who is his friend. Guna has a girlfriend Priya with whom he accidentally develops a physical relationship. Guna hides this news from his brother. Guna's love is objected by Priya's father Easwarapandiyan (Ashish Vidyarthi) fearing for the loss of his status and name in society. Soon, in a college function, some goons sent by Easwarapandiyan beat up Guna. Bagavathy finds him and takes him to hospital. He takes the help of his friend Anand(Yugendran Vasudevan Nair) to safeguard his brother from the atrocities of Easwarapandiyan. Bagavathy, to fulfill his brother's wish, tries to convince Priya's father. Easwarapandiyan humilitates him by masking him polish his shoes. Bagavathy does so but despite that Easwarapandiyan says that Guna will die. Guna attempts to marry Priya even without the knowledge of his brother. But Priya's father collapses the marriage and Guna is killed in front of Bagavathy. Anand is also killed after trying to defend Guna.
