Ce film parle d'un homme d'affaires vivant dans la ville de Chennai avec son fils Vishnu. Ramanaa begins with the abduction of fifteen Tehsildars. After three days in captivity, fourteen of the officers get released. However, one of the men gets murdered. The police finds a tape recording and a file from the man's body. This evidence exposes that the kidnapping and subsequent murder were committed by members of the self-proclaimed "Anti-Corruption Force" (ACF), a citizen militia seeking to eliminate corruption by any means necessary. The militia, acting as a kangaroo court, "sentenced" officials in the area to death - beginning with the captured revenue officers who were apparently engaging in criminal activity.

The story focuses on five friends Prabu, Elango, Sundar, Indra and Priya at the Madras Institute of Technology, who want to remain friends throughout their lifespan and hope to join the same company after graduation. During a vacation Elango, goes home where he is forced to get married to his rustic cousin, Eshwari by his tough disciplinarian father. Once back to college he hides the fact about his marriage to his friends but later the marriage becomes public when relatives of Eshwari come to visit Elango. While their dream to work together becomes true, Elango alone gets a transfer to Bombay. The friends fight but later reunites back. Before Elango goes Bombay the friends force him to visit his wife and put him on a train. But Elango manages to get off the train and from there loses touch with his friends and family in the village.

V Sukumaran (Mammootty) is an upcoming youth wing leader of a minor party in the ruling coalition. His wife, Valsala (Shanthi Krishna) is a college lecturer and she takes care of family life which includes their school going son, Unni. She grows more and more tired of Sukumaran's lack of attention to her and family. Sukumaran is being taken advantage by party leadership who burdens him with nasty tasks while his junior co-workers accepts bribe in his name. They also invades to family's privacy and finance.
