Swati Mutyam (English: A White Pearl) was a 1986 Telugu Drama Film written and directed by K. Viswanath. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Raadhika in the lead roles. The movie won accolades at Asia Pacific Film Festival in both "Best Film" and "Best Actor" categories. The movie was later dubbed into Tamil as "Sippikul Muthu". Upon its success, the movie was later remade in Hindi as Eeshwar and in Kannada as Swathi Muthu.
This movie shows the plight of a young widow who was rescued by an innocent and good natured person. The film was sent by India as its official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film for the Academy Awards in 1986, but was not nominated. The film was a musical blockbuster with soundtrack composed by Ilaiyaraaja including a Harikatha disposition. Shivaiah (Kamal Haasan), an orphan and a mentally retarded person, lives along with his grandmother (Nirmalamma) in a village. In that village Lalitha (Raadhika), an young widow with a 5-year old son, lives along with her brother's family. She and her son often get abused by her sister-in-law but Lalitha, having no where to go bears it all.
