It was Chiranjeevi's second performance in a K. Viswanath film; their first collaboration was Subhalekha. The film also starred Vijayashanti, and Sumalatha. It also won him a Nandi Award for Best Actor. The film was screened at the Moscow International Film Festival.
Synopsis
Sambayya (Chiranjeevi) is a cobbler who raises his dead sister's son Chinna (Arjun/Sirish) while also financing the education of the orphaned Sarada (Sumalatha). He also nurses a love crush and intends to marry her someday.Acteurs

The film revolves around the role of Naidu (Kaikala Satyanarayana), a Carnatic musician and elder son Narayana Murthy (played by Rajasekhar) who starts getting recognized in the world because of the music learned from Naidu and leaves everyone to fall into the worldly pleasures forgetting his base roots. Narasimha Murti (Chiranjeevi) is a multi-talented person who works as a waiter in a star hotel (filming location: Dolphin Hotel, Visakhapatnam) since he is unable to pass his B.A. exams. He meets Sujata (Sumalata), a lecturer who works in a college run by councillor Ankela Adiseshayya (Kaikala Satyanarayana). Mohan (Girish), who is an engineer and elder son of Adiseshayya, comes to Sujatha's place with his father for a marriage proposal. During this Sujata stands up and has an argument with Adiseshayya when the latter demands exorbitant amounts as dowry. This creates a rift between Sujata and her parents who fear that this act of Sujata might ostracize them from society. Adiseshayya also dismisses Sujata from her job.

Saptapadi deals with the transformation of an individual so devoted to (mired in) the concept of rituals, that it takes an act of God (will be discussed shortly) for him to realize the true spirit behind the rituals and true meaning of the prayers.
