It was remade in Kannada as Anjada Gandu with V Ravichandran.
Synopsis
The film begins by showing Rajni as Balu, a lavish spendthrift with a cavalier attitude towards life. Born to a rich father Chandrasekhar (played by VS Raghavan), Rajni has a rampant and aggressive behaviour and gets into confrontations wherever he perceives injustice. Worried about Rajni's behaviour, his father decides to send him to his friend and ex-militaryman Gangadharan's (played by Sendhamarai) village, to work for him for one year with a condition that Rajni will not reveal that he is the son of Chandrasekhar. Rajni slowly gets accustomed to the village life and learns to work hard and develops a good relation with Gangadharan and his family. During his stay, he spars with an arrogant rich girl, Sumathi (Madhavi). Madhavi assuming Rajni to be a poor villager tries to humiliate him and Rajni responds in kind. Eventually they both fall in love. In a triangular story line, Gangadharan's daughter played by Sulokshana, also falls in love with Rajni, but learns he is in love with Madhavi. A dejected Sulokshana agrees to marry a man (Sathyaraj) chosen by her father. Madhavi's father (played by Vinu Chakravarthi) who had agreed to get her married to his partner's son rescinds the proposal on Madhavi's request. This enrages the villainous partner (Srikanth) and he kidnaps Madhavi to marry her by force to his son Nizhalgal Ravi. Rajni rescues her and leaves her in the custody of Satyaraj and Sulakshana. However Sathyaraj betrays his trust and turns her over back to Srikanth and Nizhalgal Ravi. In a final fight sequence, Rajni rescues Madhavi and returns her to her father. Rajni then leaves the village after learning hard work, discipline and many other good virtues from Gangadharan. The final scene shows Madhavi and her father at Rajni's father house discussing marriage for Madhavi. Madhavi refuses but soon realizes that she is actually in Rajni's house and to everyone's surprise Rajni clad in a full suit walks down the stairs when the credits start rolling.Acteurs

Sivaji is the loving elder step-brother of Rajinikanth and Vijaybabu. After his marriage, his wife (Vadivukkarasi) sends his brothers out when he goes to Chennai. Rajini, the older of the two, toils and becomes a taxi driver to educate and treat his brother. But his brother strays and gets mixed up with some wrong-doers. He marries a girl (Ramya Krishnan) from a rich family. The girl's uncle (Jaishankar), is a smuggler who sells drugs using his brother's lorries, kills him and puts the blame on Rajini. Sivaji, the presiding judge, realises that its his long-lost brother and returns as a lawyer to save him.

The story begins with a young couple, Balu and Ishwarya, being chased by some goons. Ishwarya is the daughter of Rajadorai (Charan Raj) and had eloped and run away with her boyfriend Balu against the wishes of Rajadorai. Rajadorai sends his goons to track down the couple. When the goons finally track down the couple in a forest and start beating up Balu, a man (Rajinikanth) comes to the couple's rescue. When Rajadorai and his brother Ramadorai (Nizhalgal Ravi) find out about this man, they rush over to his hideout in the forest, only to escape in fear when they see him. The couple is scared and puzzled as to how the man could induce so much fear in the brothers. The man's wife Parvathi (Gouthami) then tells the couple the story of the man, whose name is Dharmadorai.

Naagulu (Chiranjeevi), a snake charmer, falls in love with Menaka, whose adopted brother Raju (Narasimha Raju) is in love with Naagulu's cousin Laxmi (Rati Agnihotri). Naagulu's father has been feeding mixing snake poison in his food since childhood, making Naagulu immune to any snake bite. Every full moon, Naagulu behaves like a cobra and searches for a woman and every woman he meets dies from his poison. On one such full moon, he kills Menaka and Raju gets suspicious about this, as there are no marks of a snake bite on her body. A young teacher comes to the village and becomes Naagulu's victim. Raju investigates with the help of film in her still camera and discovers that Naagulu has become a snake. Naagulu's father reveals his secret before dying and Naagulu tries to find a remedy, but it's too late for that. His skin starts peeling off like a snake and Raju advises him to leave the village before villagers find and kill him. Naagulu prefers death to the life of a snake and commits suicide from a hilltop.

Aarumugam makes a blazing entrance, gatecrashing a marriage to abduct the bride. Geetha, the bride's friend, gets him arrested but then learns that he had rescued the girl from a forced marriage. Further revelations about him that he is a gold medalist, has a good heart, make her fall in love with him. After some convincing, Aarumugam reciprocates too. Meanwhile, Aarumugam's sister is in love with the son of a rich woman Rajarajeswari. When Rajarajeswari learns of this, she foists a false case on her and puts her in jail. It is then that Aarumugam has his first encounter with Rajarajeswari. He then learns that she is none other than Geetha's mother. He also invites Geetha's mother Rajarajeswari to his marriage. At that time he calls his friend (played by Chiranjeevi) and tells him that during his marriage there are goons to stop this marriage, he requests him to look after the rowdies and Chiranjeevi comes and fights off the goons and attends the marriage and he goes. He marries Geetha against her mother's wishes. Rajarajeswari vows to separate Geetha from him while he vows to prevent that and make Rajarajeswari understand that love and affection are more important than money.Which is an important message delivered to the audience.
