The film won Nandi Awards for Best lyrics, Best Male Playback Singer, Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Actress. It was screened at Asia Pacific Film Festival. The film was shot in Jaipur and Kerala. The film had Hariprasad Chaurasia's flute rendering and a cameo of drummer Sivamani.
Synopsis
Hari Prasad (Sarvadaman Banerjee), a blind flutist lives along with his younger sister in a village nearby Jaipur, which was also a tourist attraction. Though he lacks knowledge of classical music, he plays flute beautifully and makes living by playing it to tourists. One day guide Jyothirmai (Moon Moon Sen) comes there along with a bunch of tourists and listens to his flute. She understands his talent and helps him understand nature and to become a famous flutist. Years pass and Hari Prasad becomes Pandit Hari Prasad. Unknowing to her, Hari Prasad admires her very much and dedicates all his albums to her. Meanwhile a mute painter Subhashini (Suhasini) who meets him in his village, falls for him.Acteurs

Narasimha Murti (Chiranjeevi) is a multi-talented person who works as a waiter in a star hotel (filming location: Dolphin Hotel, Visakhapatnam) since he is unable to pass his B.A. exams. He meets Sujata (Sumalata), a lecturer who works in a college run by councillor Ankela Adiseshayya (Kaikala Satyanarayana). Mohan (Girish), who is an engineer and elder son of Adiseshayya, comes to Sujatha's place with his father for a marriage proposal. During this Sujata stands up and has an argument with Adiseshayya when the latter demands exorbitant amounts as dowry. This creates a rift between Sujata and her parents who fear that this act of Sujata might ostracize them from society. Adiseshayya also dismisses Sujata from her job.

Saptapadi deals with the transformation of an individual so devoted to (mired in) the concept of rituals, that it takes an act of God (will be discussed shortly) for him to realize the true spirit behind the rituals and true meaning of the prayers.
