Synopsis
Devanarayanan (Mohanlal) is a Brahmin priest, who has to look after the entire family. He is in love with Shobana but her father Innocent is against their relationship. M.G Soman falsely accuses Mohanlal, the theft of "Temple thiruvabharana" and forces him to leave his village in Kerala.Acteurs

Aakash Rana (Ajay Devgn), is an illegal immigrant married to British citizen Nikita (Kangna Ranaut) living as a successful engineer but is eventually caught and deported from the UK thus crushing his dreams of an ideal life. Four years later, Aakash returns with vengeance on his mind and teams up with his former employees Aadil Khan(Zayed Khan) and Megha (Sameera Reddy) to wreak some havoc. What follows is a bomb threat on a train and a tensed Railway Control officer Sanjay Raina (Boman Irani) and Anti-Terrorism officer Arjun Khanna (Anil Kapoor) trying every trick in the book to avert the disaster and to apprehend the culprits. Sanjay Raina trying his best to save his daughter Piya (Avika Gor) and the passengers in the train who are thrown in the mix are police officer Shivan Nair (Mohanlal) and his team of cops, who are escorting a prisoner on the same ill-fated train. Aakash demands 10 million euros and then he will tell how to disarm the bomb. The ministry does not want to give the money, but Khanna convinces them that the money will be given back and is a way to lure the terrorists. After following Aakash's instructions and dropping the money in a river, he walks away. Meghna gets the money and tries to get away. She evades the cops after a vicious chase but unfortunately she is killed by a van in an intersection. Khanna finds out that Khan is one of the bombers and chases him. Khan is shot in the leg, but he gets away after jumping from the bridge and landing on a jet ski driven by Aakash. Aakash once again demands money and tells it to be left in a dustbin. The dustbin falls inward and Aakash runs away with the money even though the police attempt to pursue him. Khanna and his team find out where Aadil is and go there to arrest him. However, Aadil commits suicide with a bomb almost killing Khanna. Aakash calls Raina and tells him that a note has been left at a restaurant called Delhi Darbar that tells how to defuse the bomb. However, the restaurant catches on fire and the letter is burnt. Aakash visits Nikita and his son and they arrange to leave UK that night via flight. Khanna visits Nikita and tells who her husband is. After changing the plan, that they should leave UK via train because the police has found out about his plan of leaving via plane, he goes to the train station. There he sees a video of Raina asking the bomber to call again as the letter was burnt. Aakash calls Raina and tells him that the bomb was not connected to the wheels and the train will not explode if stopped. Raina stops the train and everyone disembarks safely. Nikita who is helping Khanna now, goes to the train station and sees Aakash and the news that the bomb threat was a hoax. She lets Aakash go, but Khanna finds out as Aakash's son calls him Daddy. Khanna chases him and they fight. After Aakash pleas to Khanna to let him go and explains why he took such drastic actions. Realizing that Aakash was a victim of deportation and wants to just be with his family again at peace, Khanna stays silent (hinting he will let him leave scotfree). However, the police arrive and after seeing that Aakash had a gun, they shoot him.

The train No.20 Madras Mail to Madras starts from Trivandrum Central. R.K. Nair (M.G. Soman), a Kollam-based businessman takes the first class coupe of the train to Madras with his wife Geetha (Jayabharathi) and daughter Devi (Suchitra) from Kollam Junction. Tony Kurushingal (Mohanlal), along with his friends Hitchcock Kanjikuzhi (Manianpilla Raju) and Kumbalam Hari (Jagadish) boards the same coach from Kottayam. Tony is the son of a wealthy businessman, Kurishinkal Kariyachan (Jagannatha Varma), Kanjikuzhi is a detective novelist and Hari is an young politician. The three of them are going to Madras for seeing a cricket match and to make attempts to make Kanjikuzhi's novel Vaazhikuzhiyile Kolapathakam a film. All the three are heavily drunken while boarding the train. After entering the train and seeing Devi, Tony and friends make several attempts in getting a seat for Tony in the same coupe of Devi, with the help of TTE officer Nadar (Innocent) but with little success. While doing so Tony gets into heated arguments with RK Nair and Sunil (Ashokan), who has a reserved seat in the same coupe (from Ernakulam) as that of R.K. Nair. Actor Mammootty boards the train from Thrissur and gets into the same coach. Nadar leaves the train at Palakkad after giving company with Tony and gang and the new TTE Chokalingam a.k.a. Choki (Jagathy Sreekumar) enters the train. Tony and his friends visit Mammootty in his coupe and soon become friends with him. Meanwhile Tony tries to flirt with Devi while she returns from the toilet, which causes Tony to land in trouble with R.K Nair but Mammootty cools the scene. All goes to sleep late night.

C Pavithran Nair, also called CP is a young contractor who strives hard to make a living between his family and employees. He has not been very successful so far. However his brother Radhakrishnan Nair is a successful contractor who has big contract works at hand, most of which he gained through unlawful ways. CP’s brother in law is also a successful person working in the Municipality. One day a bridge constructed by CP’s brother Radhakrishnan Nair is collapsed while a bus on it and many people gets killed. It is revealed it is because Radhakrishnan Nair’s greed that the bridge was built weak and therefore collapsed. To cover the issue Nair with the help of his brother in law Prabhakaran, devise a plan to put the responsibility over their driver’s shoulder. The driver who is a poor man because of poor life conditions accepts to take the responsibility for the destruction of the bridge. He is told to say to the police that he blew the bridge up with bomb when his employers’, i.e., Radhakrishnan Nair and family refused to raise his wage when he asked them to. Later afraid of the driver revealing the truth, they kill him. Meanwhile when the bridge was collapsed a man named Sivan had lost his family (wife and daughter). He comes to these people one day and threatens them for what they did. One day CP happens to meet his ex-girlfriend Radha at the Municipal office who is now an officer in the Municipal office. She is against CP’s contract works since CP is trying to mix water-in-milk in his works. She asks him not to seize a road roller which he lost to Municipality as a compensation for damage in a culvert built by him(?). However he does so and feels great in doing so. In his conversations with Radha it is revealed that CP was a very active student in his college days and he was in love with Radha. One day in some disagreement on not partaking in a strike organized by CP, Radha is slapped by him and the relationship is broken there until it rekindles later. Coming to the present we see the road-roller which he made his, is not working properly. In order to repair it his friend Gopi arranges a mechanic Sulaiman. Sulaiman does not know the work properly. He keeps on telling CP that he will ‘repair it fast’ but does not do so. Finally they arrange an elephant to pull the road roller otherwise as Radha said the Municipality would charge fees for not moving it away from its compound. The elephant which is made to pull the road roller slips the rope and despite the funny efforts of everyone the road roller loses its control and hits the wall of Radha’s house. It becomes a big problem and CP tries everything possible to stop it. Police had been entering CP’s house for many reasons which causes his father’s to lose trust over his son. CP’s younger sister Deepa gets marriage proposal from a politician who is not loyal. The proposal is arranged by CP’s brother and brother in law who have professional interest to be fulfilled from this marriage. CP’s sister is later killed from what he believed from hearing that it was a blast of stove. The Municipality later decides to stop all contract works of CP. CP thinks that this is Radha’s plan and decides to take revenge on her. He cheats her by telling her to pass some money to her brother which he tells he owes to her brother. Just after she receives the money vigilance arrives at the scene and she is arrested. Later she tries to commit suicide but is saved. She is then visited by CP who tells his misfortunate story to her, situations which made him what he is now. The love rekindles between the two then. Sivan who is now a Panchayat President is a righteous person. He does a self-investigation on all illegal activities that pervade in different government offices including CP’s brother in laws’. CP comes to know about the good heart of Sivan through Radha and he decides to live a truthful life from here onwards. Sivan and CP meet and Sivan trusts CP. Meanwhile the minister gets a letter requesting to announce an investigation on NREP projects which was misused by CP’s brother and brother in law. Officers in Village Development Office try hard to make Sivan come to their terms so that they can misuse the fund with Sivan’s help. CP is tried as a prop for this, however their plan goes vain. One night Sivan is stabbed by people sent by CP’s brother and brother in law. CP takes Sivan to hospital. However after telling CP his efforts to bring people behind all evil things to the law and after detailing Deepa’s ill fate, Sivan dies. CP manages to save Sivan’s documents detailing the crimes done by his relatives. He then publishes it and the brother and brother in law are punished. In the end after justifying his deeds and his earlier failures before his relatives who blame him for sending his own relatives to jail, CP plans to leave his house just as he left while he was young. But he is stopped by Radha who offers all support in rest of his life and in his future ventures.

The film is set in British India in the year 1915. The story is about a young doctor, Govardhan Menon (Mohanlal), who is wrongly accused of bombing a train carrying 55 people including British officials. He is put in a cellular jail at Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Kaalapani shows the sufferings of hundreds of Indian prisoners in the cellular jail, including leading participants of the freedom movement. Harikrishnan (Mohanlal), an immigrant in Mumbai, who like many thousands of immigrants is busy struggling to make ends meet. He shares a room with a group of Malayali guys, who too have their own personal problems and difficulties. The film begins with Harikrishnan witnessing the murder of a journalist, and is wanted by police to appear at an identification parade, which he does. Hari and his friends stay at a room in Kamathipura, which also homes the largest red lighted area in India. He accidentally meets Kiran (Geetha), a Telugu girl in the brothel, for whom he develops a soft feeling. In a short attempt to make money, Hari and friends starts making local hooch, which is supplied by Manikandan (Jagadish), their friend, who is also a taxi driver. Shekhar (Shankar), one among the guys falls in love with the sister of Mani, without the knowledge of anyone else.

Akkineni Nagarjuna plays the role of a sincere Cop, Vamsi Krishna, who is sent undercover along with two other cops. Geeta lives with her aunt played by Sukumari. When Vamsi in guise of a telephone department inspector, pursues her and falls in love with Geetha, she reciprocates Vamsi's love interest initially but refuses him after she gets to know the truth that he's a Cop and is about to drag her father to prison. The rest of the story is about how Vamsi gets hold of Raghuram through Raghuram's daughter Geetha and what facts he learns about the crime operation of the real Criminal played by Sharat Saxena who deceives Geetha's father Raghuram who is actually an innocent victim, and in the process how the misunderstanding between Geetha and Vamsi gets cleared up, how Vamsi banishes the real criminal. The plot of the movie was inspired by the American movie Stakeout.
