Pavithra (1994) (Tamil: பவித்ரா) is a Tamil film directed by K. Subhash under his home banner, Dhanooja Films. The film features Raadhika in the lead role with Nassar and Ajith Kumar in supporting roles. The film's music was by A. R. Rahman and lyrics by Vairamuthu. The film opened on November 2, 1994. Up on the release movie received mixed reviews and was disaster at box office

Synopsis

The film is about a quasi-mother-son relationship between Radhika and Ajith. Ajith is a patient suffering from Cancer and Radhika is a nurse in the hospital where Ajith is being treated. Since Ajith's age is same as her child,which was still born and died and she is childless, Radhika showers maternal affection on Ajith, which Radhika's husband mistakes as something else because of a villain doctor who is a rogue . Confusion ensues and Radhika misunderstands Ajith and the climax is how all confusions are laid to rest, along with the hero!

Thangaraj (Nassar) is the eldest brother and he has two younger brothers : `Boxer' Krishnan (Vadivelu) and Sivaraman (Karan). In the South Indian kingdom of Cholapuram Paalayam in the year 1771, Raja Mokkaiyappar and his queen, Rajamatha Bhavani Ammaiyar are desperate for a child, as all their previous twenty-two children have died at birth. Unknown to them, Bhavani's brother, Sangilimayan, who is also the Rajaguru (Chief Minister), is responsible for the death of their children. Sangilimayan is shocked to see that his sister has given birth to twins. Before informing the king about the birth, he calls the palace astrologer, Chinnavadayaan, who predicts that the elder twin will be incapable of making decisions on his own while the younger one will be smarter. Sangilimayan orders the palace doctor, Kailasakaruppan, to kill the younger one, but Chinnavadayaan tells Sangilimayan that his actions would not be good for the kingdom. Instead, Sangilimayan orders the palace doctor to abandon the child in a nearby river. The elder child is named Pulikecei XXIII. Maragathavalli, Kailasakaruppan's childless wife, rescues the abandoned child from the river, and the couple decides to raise him as their own, naming him Ukraputhan.

Sivaraman (Nassar), an honest government clerk, and his wife Lakshmi (Raadhika), belong to a middle-class family and they have two children.
