Banaras is a 2009 Malayalam musical film by Nemom Pushparaj starring Vineeth, Kavya Madhavan and Navya Nair.

Synopsis

Hari (Vineeth), a village boy and a student is the central character of the movie. He is in love with the character played by Navya Nair. He wants to go to Banaras to do his higher studies in Banaras Hindu University. He leaves behind his love and goes for his studies. There, he meets another fellow student Amritha, played by Kavya Madhavan. Her step father wants to marry her off to a street gunda and so she asks Hari to take her to a distant place on the bike. During the trip, they unknowingly drink Bhang and make love while intoxicated. The next day they both are spotted by the gundas engaged by her step father who injures Hari badly and takes Amritha with them.

Sachidanandan (Dileep) runs an antique shop in the Jewish street at Kochi. He is famous for old Gramophone records. Jennifer (Meera Jasmine), Pattu Set (Oduvil Unnikrishnan), ‘Saigal’ Yousuf and Tabla Bhaskaran (Salim Kumar) are Sachi's fathers close friends. Sachi’s father was Raveendranathan (Murali) who was a great music director who died leaving him with a lot of musical instruments and some gramophone records. Sachi hates music, as he believes that his father has not made any money out of it. Aryadevi, a famous singer, who has been given her first break by Raveendran, comes to Kochi from Bombay with her daughter Pooja (Navya Nair).

Kuttan Thampuran (Manoj K Jayan) is the son of Subhadra Thampurati and Kochanyian Thampuran of the Maangaattu kovilkkam. Kuttan has suffered from epilepsy from childhood and is rough and violent in his character and is feared by all in the village. Haridas (Vineeth) is his classmate despite being two years younger and develops a special bond with Thampuran from childhood. Haridas always accompanies Kuttan and carries iron keys to assist Kuttan in case the seizure develops.
