Madan (Dev Anand) comes from a once well-to-do family background who is now out of work and lives in a shanty with a sick younger sister Manju (Roopa Verman). Unable to find employment, he takes to gambling in a big way. He develops a reputation for being a lucky gambler and is one day found and escorted by a stranger named Pedro to the Star Hotel where he meets the seductive dancer Leena(Geeta Bali) and is offered a job by the mysterious 'Maalik' (Boss)of tempting rich gentlemen to come and gamble at the club. Initially reluctant to take up this offer due to moral pangs, he refuses and leaves. He meets with sophisticated and cultured Dr. Rajani (Kalpana Kartik), who has opened a free clinic in his locality to treat the poor and needy and helps him out in the treatment of his sister, who is suffering from tuberculosis. Both are attracted to each other and soon fall in love. Rajani's rich lawyer dad (K.N. Singh) does not approve of Madan, nor of his background, and prefers that Rajani marry her childhood friend Inspector Ramesh (Krishan Dhawan), who is in love with her. Dejected and in dire need of money for his sister's treatment who has been packed off to a sanatorium somewhere in a hill station, Madan accepts the job at star club and meets more frequently with the sexy club dancer Leena. He becomes friends with her and is seen discussing his troubles and thoughts with her. In turn, she is obviously charmed by him and evidently has a soft spot for him. Then Inspector Ramesh arrests Madan and imprisons him for the murder of Leena, who was killed with a revolver with Madan's fingerprints on it. The shooter intended to kill Madan, but Leena protected him and was killed instead. Rajani's father (who also turns out to be Maalik, the mysterious Boss of Star Club) had ordered the killing because he didn't consider Madan suitable for his daughter. Rajani's father threatens Madan that he will kill his sister if he says anything. Madan keeps quiet and is sentenced to be hanged at 6 am. Inspector Ramesh finds some evidence that it wasn't Madan who killed Leena. He sets a trap for Rajani's father and leads him to believe that Madan has been hanged, and in his joy, makes him confess to his plan to frame Madan. Then, Rajani's father is arrested and imprisoned and Madan is sent to three months' worth probation for indulging in gambling activities. He is freed after serving his small sentence and is united with Rajani.

After losing his vision during a storm, Carlos (K.N. Singh) lives with his sister, Maria (Geeta Bali), off the Indian coast in a fishing village. One day a mysterious young woman, Lisa, enters their lives, followed by a mysterious man, Tony Fernandes (Dev Anand). Maria and Tony fall in love with each other, much to the chagrin of Simon, who loves Maria and wants to marry her. Lisa then warns Maria that she has known Tony, they have had an affair together, and he had betrayed her, however, this warning has no effect on Maria. The 16th century, the Malabar Coast. General Barbosa (KN Singh) signs a treaty with the queen (Sulochana) of a small state giving the Portuguese right to trade in exchange for military protection. With the help of the queen's nephew Jaswant (Ramsingh), he begins to meddle in the administration as well. He arrests merchant Ramzan Ali and his friend Narayan Das. Das' daughter Nisha (Geeta Bali) tries to save her father but is caught by Barbosa and both are sold to a cruel Portuguese pirate Cabral. Cabral kills Narayan Das. Nisha rouses her fellow slaves to revolt against Cabral and once Cabral is killed Nisha becomes a pirate queen pillaging all Portuguese ships in sight. One such ship includes heir to the throne Prince Ravi (Guru Dutt), a Portuguese woman Rosita (Kuldip Kaur) and a court astrologer (Johnny Walker). Nisha spares their lives as Ravi had saved her life earlier. They inevitably fall in love. Ravi joins the mutineers without revealing his identity. Back on shore, Ravi learns Jaswant is to be crowned king. Ravi is arrested and sentenced to death. Nisha saves him and they join forces with other local chiefs to defeat Barbosa.

Ses parents dévorés par un léopard (Sabor) après avoir bâti un campement dans la jungle alors qu'il n'était encore qu'un nourrisson, Tarzan est recueilli par Kala, une femelle gorille qui a perdu son bébé, lui aussi dévoré par le léopard. Tarzan grandit alors dans la jungle en compagnie de Tok, la gorille et de Tantor, l'éléphant mais souffre de la différence qui l'écarte du reste du troupeau. Un beau jour, après une bataille contre Sabor s'ensuivant par la mort du fauve, il découvre dans la jungle un groupe d’explorateurs dans lequel se trouvent Jane Porter et son père à la recherche de gorilles. Tarzan refuse de les emmener voir sa famille car un certain Clayton, le protecteur de Jane et son père, est armé. Mais lorsque Tarzan apprend que Jane quitte la jungle pour retourner en Angleterre, il accepte de les conduire jusqu'à sa famille. Malheureusement, Tarzan est considéré comme un traître par le chef du troupeau, Kerchak, qui malgré son lien matrimonial avec Kala n'a jamais aimé Tarzan et ne l'a jamais considéré comme son fils. Tarzan gagnera peu à peu sa confiance en repoussant Clayton venu pour capturer et vendre les gorilles du troupeau. Il conquerra aussi le cœur de Jane jusqu’à ce qu'elle décide de rester auprès de lui dans la jungle.

Horace Hardwick (Edward Everett Horton) est sur le point de produire un nouveau spectacle musical avec pour vedette le danseur américain Jerry Travers (Fred Astaire). Furieuse, elle vient frapper à sa porte bien décidée à faire cesser ce tapage nocturne, mais ils tombent sous le charme l’un de l’autre. Après l’accueil triomphal de la première, les principaux participants s’envolent pour Venise. S’ensuit toute une série de quiproquos amoureux ponctués çà et là par des numéros de danse jusqu’à la scène finale explicative où se retrouvent les danseurs pour un dernier ballet.
