Chitrangi (Tamil: சித்ராங்கி) is a 1964 Indian Tamil film, directed by R. S. Mani. The film stars A. V. M. Rajan and Pushpalatha in the lead roles. It was produced under the banner of Modern Theatres. The soundtrack was composed by Vedha while the lyrics were written by K. M. Balasubramaniam and Vaali.

Synopsis

The king has a brother (AVM. Rajan) and an ambitious commander eyeing the throne (Manohar). Escaping from the kingdom, the brother meets with an accident and is saved by a young woman (Pushpalatha) who takes him to her humble home and looks after him. The two fall in love. The young woman who has no knowledge of her lover's identity marries him and he leaves her even before their wedding night. She suffers in silence, and then sets out to find her husband. She undergoes many trials and tribulations and finally reaches the capital of the kingdom where she is shocked to find that the king is none other than her husband! More intrigues follow preventing her from joining her husband. However, the problems are solved and the two live happily thereafter.

Ramesh (S. A. Ashokan) is an engineer who is hunting for a job and with the help of his friend Babu (Thangavelu) goes to see a wealthy businessman named Laxman for a new project of his. After a song and a comic encounter with Laxman's daughter Geeta (Manimala), he falls in love with her. He also achieves very good success in convincing Geeta's father into starting the project. During a sight visit for the project, his suitcase gets swapped with a similar suitcase of a co-passenger named Mala (Manorama), which is full of money. For this reason Ramesh is detained in a police lock-up. Also Mala is revealed to be part of a criminal gang. When the gang leader, Jumboo, is not able to kill Mala (because he needs a particular diary from her), he instead arranges a dangerous rowdy named Bijua Pakiri (Manohar)to kill Ramesh within the lock-up.

Billa (Rajinikanth) est un dangereux parrain. Pilot Ashok (Sivaji Ganesan) is in love with Sivakami (Vanisri). They have an affair and Sivakami becomes pregnant. Ashok dies in a plane crash. Sivakami tells her father about her pregnancy. But soon he dies too. Sivakami is now on her own with her new born child whom she gives to a rich family to look after. She works there as a servant and she tells the rich person about her past. She emphasizes that this must not be told to his wife who is fond of the child. He promises her that he wouldn't. Meanwhile, the wife's brother R.S.Manohar sees Sivakami and wants to marry her. When she rejects his proposal, he tries to rape her. Her son kills him with a knife. The child runs away leaving Sivakami with the knife. Sivakami goes to prison as she confesses to the murder. She is released twenty years later. Meanwhile, the rich man's wife finds out about Sivakami's history from her husband. She is shocked and wants her to be immediately released from prison. Sivakami returns to their home. A girl living there Latha sees Sivakami. They get along well. She takes Sivakami to the airport to meet her fiancé who turns out to be Sivakami's son Sivaji Ganesan. However he doesn't recognise her as he was much younger when he saw her last time. One day he finds a diary and sees pictures of his father, his mother and himself with his mother. Then he remembers Sivakami and asks her to come to his awards ceremony. During the ceremony, he asks his mother to present him the award to which she obliges. The film ends with both Sivaji Ganesan and Vanisri on the stage.
