Thathachari (Neelu) narrates a small anecdote of Sultan Muhammad bin Tughluq emphasizing on how the king had an arrogant attitude, indifferent view towards his kingdom and subjects, how he treated his guests and also the kind of plans he introduced that backfired. When his son Rangachari (Rajagopal) goes on a mission to research on Tughluq, he finds a buried coffin that contains Thugluq (Cho), and his accomplice Ibn Batuta (Peeli Sivam) alive inside. They claim that they are the true Thugluq and Batuta buried several centuries ago along with a herb that has protected them and kept them alive until 1968 A.D. (the present year of the film)

Kavitha (Sujatha) is a working woman in a middle-class family. She works hard to support her widowed sister, unmarried sister, her blind younger brother, her mother, her drunkard brother Murthy (Jaiganesh) and his family. Her father abandons the family and becomes a saint. Her brother not only does not take responsibilities, but also creates additional problems for her. She has a longtime boyfriend of five years, Tilak (Vijayakumar) who wants to marry her, but she doesn't because of her commitment to her family. His eyes now wander to Kavitha's widowed younger sister Bharathi (Sripriya) who reciprocates his feelings. Kavitha, after reading her boyfriend's love letter to her sister, arranges for them to get married, thus giving up her chance of having a life with him. Meanwhile, Prasad (Kamalahasan) loves Bharathi, Kavitha's sister; but when he comes to know that she loves Tilak, he sacrifices his love for her and marries Kavitha's distressed friend, Chandra (Fatafat Jayalaxmi). Kavitha eventually accepts a marriage proposal of her boss (Gokulnath), when she realizes that her brother has become responsible enough to take care of her family. She decides to resign from the hard work, but could not as the result of a turning point in a typical Balachandar-style climax. Kavitha swaps her unmarried sister as the bride in her stead, as she is informed of Murthy's death minutes before. In the end she resumes her job and continues to support the family.

Lord Shiva gives a sacred fruit, brought by the sage Narada, to his elder son Vinayaka as a prize for outsmarting his younger brother Muruga in a competition to win it. Angered by his father's decision, Muruga, dressed as a hermit, goes to Palani, despite Avvaiyar's attempts to convince him to return to Mount Kailash. Panneer Selvam (Vijayakanth), an honest cop, gathers enough evidence against a local goon Arumai Nayagam a.k.a. Annachi (Thilakan). Annachi is sent to prison. Annachi avenges his arrest by killing Panneer Selvam's wife (Revathi). Since then, ACP Panneer Selvam quits the Police force and takes care of his children renting an apartment owned by V.K Ramaswamy. Bhanupriya (VK Ramaswamy's grand daughter) gets introduced to Panner Selvam's children and starts mingling with them eventually falling in love with Panneer Selvam. Meanwhile, Arumai Nayagam is released from the prison and realizes that he doesn't carry the same respect as he used to before going to jail. His anger against Panneer Selvam doesn't cease. Arumai Nayagam challenges Panneer Selvam to join the police again and try to fight him again. Panneer Selvam initially rejects the offer. Arumai Nayagam tries to provoke Panneer Selvam by attacking his home and son. Out of frustration over son's attack, Panneer Selvam joins the Police again and fights Arumai Nayagam again. ACP Panner Selvam's fight against Arumai Nayagam forms the rest of the plot.

After accidentally meeting, Mridula (Nagma) and Arun (Prabhu Deva) fall in love. The young couple both come from affluent families, and so, to test whether they will be suited for a long term relationship, they both decide to live together. However, a few months into their relationship, Arun and Mridula get in an accident and he passes away. A devastated Mridula is unable to get over her loss, and before long starts seeing Arun in strange visions everywhere she goes. Her family eventually decide that relocating to another country might help Mridula move on, and so they send her to the UK. Once she arrives there, she meets Mano, a young man attracted to her. She knows that her parents expect her to fall for Mano. But as she can't move on, she runs away. She meets a person who looks exactly like Arun. She follows him and finds out where he lives and works. Whenever she tries to talk to him, he denies his relationship with her and says he doesn't know her. However, she later finds out that her father had Arun sent away as he had helped with Arun's sister's marriage and had threatened to let it all go downhill for her. Arun moves to UK in hopes that he can forget about Mridula but he can't and when he meets her, he realises this. When Mridula's father finds out Arun is still alive, he tries to kill him. However he realises his mistake and lets the lovebirds reunite.

En 1973, à la suite d'un coup d'état, s'installe en Uruguay une dictature militaire qui s'empresse d'emprisonner les opposants politiques. Parmi eux, trois dirigeants des Tupamaros, José Mujica dit Pepe, Eleuterio Fernández Huidobro dit Ñato et Mauricio Rosencof que le pouvoir en place considère comme des otages qui seront exécutés à la moindre action de leurs quelques compagnons d'arme restés en liberté. Incarcérés sans procès pendant douze ans, les trois hommes sont torturés, privés de tout contact, ballotés de geôles sordides en culs de basse fosse, affamés et maintenu dans un état de crasse indescriptible. Malgré cela, les trois hommes résistent en repensant aux moments heureux de leur vie, en communiquant en frappant sur les murs ou en mettant en évidence l'absurdité du régime pénitentiaire. Ils font échouer ainsi le plan des militaires de les rendre fous faute de pouvoir les tuer.
