Jhoola is a 1941 Indian Bollywood social film directed by Gyan Mukherjee. It was produced by Sashadhar Mukherjee under the banner of Bombay Talkies. The film starred Ashok Kumar, Leela Chitnis, Rajkumari Shukla, V. H. Desai, Mumtaz Ali, Shah Nawaz, and Jyoti. The music was composed by Saraswati Devi with lyrics by Kavi Pradeep.

Synopsis

A young widow called Kamala (Aruna Devi) approaches the new zamindar of her village to waive off the land tax as she is in financially straitened circumstances. She is called for a private audience with him, where she is surprised to discover that the new zamindar is none other than Mahesh (Shah Nawaz), her one time lover. Mahesh inquires about her late husband out of curiosity, only to discover to his surprise that she never married. Having considered him her husband, she pretended to be a widow to avoid being forced into marriage against her will.

Shekhar sort de prison après avoir purgé sa peine. C'était un prisonnier modèle, mais c'est aussi un voleur dans l'âme qui ne parvient pas à regretter ses méfaits. Aussitôt libéré, il arrive en ville, et sur une place bondée, il repère le manège d'un petit homme (V.H. Desai) qui subtilise la montre d'un vieux clochard (P.F. Pithawala). En un tournemain, Shekhar dépouille le voleur et se rend chez son receleur habituel (David). Le petit homme était déjà là, désolé de ne pouvoir mettre la main la montre qu'il venait de dérober. Loin de se battre, leur attirance commune pour la filouterie les rapproche. Ils s'associent pour un futur larcin.

Balraj (Dharmendra), affectionately called Raj, by his elder brother (Nana Palsikar) and sister Vija (Madhumati), is a student in college in the arts semester. As the family is not very rich, Raj decides to move from the hostel to the residence of a family. He finds one such family in Gandhinagar, which consists of Choudhury Hukumat Rai (Ashok Kumar), a lawyer by profession, his wife (Sulochana Chatterjee), and only daughter Shanti (Mala Sinha). Hukumat takes an instant liking to Raj, and tells him that his wife will only allow him to take up residence if he tells her that he is already married. Raj reluctantly does so, and thus acquires residence with the Rai family. Eventually Mrs. Rai takes a liking to Raj, so does Shanti. Shanti finds out Raj and her dad had lied to the family about Raj's marital status, she confronts Raj, and he readily admits that he lied. Both fall in love. Mr. and Mrs. Rai are thrilled, when they come to know that Raj and Shanti are in love, and excitedly plan their marriage. As Raj's brother is critically ill, Raj has to return to his village. After several days when Raj returns to the Rai family, he refuses to marry Shanti on the ground that he is going to marry Gauri (Nimmi), the blind sister of Pran whom his sister loves. The Rai family is devastated. And then they find out that then Raj has been arrested for killing someone.

Le juge Raghunath est un juge riche de district qui juge Jagga, un homme dont le père était un criminel, de viol sur peu de preuves.
