Ajouter à une liste de filmsAl Hilal (Judgement of Allah) is a 1935 Urdu/Hindi costume drama film. It was the debut directorial venture of Mehboob Khan. He went on to become "one of the pioneer directors of Indian Cinema". The film is thought to be an inspired by Cecil B. DeMille’s The Sign of the Cross. The film was produced by Sagar Movietone. The director of photography was Faredoon Irani. The music composer was Pransukh Nayak with lyrics by Munshi Ehsan Lucknavi. It starred Kumar, Indira, Yakub, Sitara Devi, Kayam Ali and Mehboob Khan. The film depicted fictionalised history in the form of a Roman-Arab conflict, with the son of the Ottoman Empire being captured by the Roman army and his escape from them.
Synopsis
Set in the Ottoman Empire it deals with the Caesar’s (Pande) army and their skirmishes with the local Muslim rulers. The Sultan’s (Asooji) son Ziyad (Kumar) is arrested by the Roman army. The Roman princess Rahil falls in love with him. A Muslim maid Leela (Sitara Devi) and the princess help him escape. What follows are long chase scenes and fights which ultimately lead to success for Ziyad and his people.Acteurs

Radha (Sardar Akhtar) is an indomitable woman, toiling away to feed her three sons and to pay off Sukhilala, the village's rapacious moneylender. When she learns that she is pregnant again, her husband, Shamu (Arun), runs far away, leaving her to fend for herself against poverty and the lecherous advances of Sukhilala. Later, the two eldest children die, leaving her with only two sons: the straight-laced Ramu (Surendra) and the wild Birju (Yakub). The latter of the two becomes a bandit, who kills Sukhilala and kidnaps his childhood sweetheart. As a result, Radha and Ramu are cast out of the village. Eventually, Radha kills Birju for dishonoring her.

In a fictionalised setting somewhere in Central Asia the tyrannical Russian King (Siddiqui) is committing atrocities against the Cossacks. General Murad (Kumar) is sympathetic towards the Cossacks and is arrested for his treachery. He manages to escape and meets Gulnar (Sitara Devi). Together with the help of princess Nigar (Bibbo) who falls in love with Murad, they plan a coup and are successful in routing the Tsar and his men.

Moti (Motilal) is engaged to Bina (Maya Banerjee) but gets involved with Leela (Rose) who is passionate about him. She declares her love for Moti without guilt and goes on to have his child out of wedlock. Her traumatised father suggests that she commit suicide to avoid shame and harassment from society. Bina decides to break off her engagement with Moti in order for him to marry Leela. But Moti goes after Bina and is told by her father that Bina is dead. Leela makes the final sacrifice letting Moti go to Bina.

Neela (Bibbo) and Jagirdar (Surendra) marry each other without anyone’s knowledge. However, Jagirdar goes missing at sea presumed dead. Neela realises she’s pregnant and when the child is born he’s called illegitimate. Shripat (Pande), a poor farmer marries her and helps take care of her son Ramesh. On his return Jagirdar is angry to find Neela married to Shripat and a fight ensues. When Shripat is killed by Banwarilal everyone assumes Jagirdar is the murderer. Soon with Ramesh’s help they fight the villains with the truth revealed. Ramesh finally accepts Jagirdar as his father.

Lucknow medical student Yusuf has fallen in love with Najma, the daughter of his wealthy neighbor, after seeing her only once. Encouraged by his friend Bedil, he decides to pursue her. Najma thinks he is too forward and tries to punish him by putting salt in his food at her family's Eid celebration, but accidentally serves it to his father Dr. Khan instead. Najma then falls in love with Yusuf, meeting him secretly in the garden. Their romance is interrupted when Dr. Khan announces that he has betrothed his son to his cousin Raziya. Although Yusuf initially refuses to marry Raziya because she is an uneducated village girl and he loves Najma, Najma convinces him to marry Raziya to preserve his family's honor. Heartbroken, they both marry other people; Yusuf marries Raziya and Najma weds the wealthy Mukarram Nawab. Raziya finds out about Yusuf's hidden love and becomes very jealous. Meanwhile, Yusuf sinks into depression and Najma becomes ill with worry over him. Mukarram overhears Raziya jealously berating Najma over her love for Yusuf and resolves to kill him. But Mukarram has a serious accident and Yusuf is the only one who can save his life. Yusuf saves Mukarra's life and assures him and Raziya that he does not wish to take Najma away. Giving up each other forever, Yusuf and Najma part.
