Kasalavu Nesam is a 1999 Tamil comedy television series directed by K. Balachander and starring Venu Arvind. The series aired on Sun TV and Raj TV, and is referred to as among Balachander's "most memorable".
Synopsis
Gautam (Venu Arvind) is unemployed and when all his efforts in securing a job fail miserably, his friend recommends him for a job with a large business magnate. The catch is that in order to get the job, Gautam must marry the boss' dark-complexioned daughter. Against his better judgement, he marries her, but her lack of beauty makes him cringe. As fate would have it, he falls in love with a beautiful ghazal singer. Soon thereafter, his wife dies in an accident. The coast now being clear, Gautam happily marries the ghazal singer. However, his happiness is short-lived as he soon realizes that he now has two fathers-in-law. Life becomes miserable for Gautam with both his fathers-in-law enforcing their influence and their crazy ideas to his everyday life. Gautam laments that one can afford to have two living wives, but not two living fathers-in-law. To make matters worse, Gautam's first wife returns as a spirit. With the constant appearance of the first wife's spirit, visible only to Gautam, events take a more uproarious turn. A series of mind-boggling comic interludes develop and utter confusion reins amidst the family members.Acteurs

Kavitha (Sujatha) is a working woman in a middle-class family. She works hard to support her widowed sister, unmarried sister, her blind younger brother, her mother, her drunkard brother Murthy (Jaiganesh) and his family. Her father abandons the family and becomes a saint. Her brother not only does not take responsibilities, but also creates additional problems for her. She has a longtime boyfriend of five years, Tilak (Vijayakumar) who wants to marry her, but she doesn't because of her commitment to her family. His eyes now wander to Kavitha's widowed younger sister Bharathi (Sripriya) who reciprocates his feelings. Kavitha, after reading her boyfriend's love letter to her sister, arranges for them to get married, thus giving up her chance of having a life with him. Meanwhile, Prasad (Kamalahasan) loves Bharathi, Kavitha's sister; but when he comes to know that she loves Tilak, he sacrifices his love for her and marries Kavitha's distressed friend, Chandra (Fatafat Jayalaxmi). Kavitha eventually accepts a marriage proposal of her boss (Gokulnath), when she realizes that her brother has become responsible enough to take care of her family. She decides to resign from the hard work, but could not as the result of a turning point in a typical Balachandar-style climax. Kavitha swaps her unmarried sister as the bride in her stead, as she is informed of Murthy's death minutes before. In the end she resumes her job and continues to support the family.

Devu, a local thug whose weapon of choice is a bicycle chain he sports casually around the neck. Devu charges ₹ 30 to slice a finger, ₹ 300 to chop a hand, ₹ 3000 for the leg, and ten times as much to dispose off the whole body. On one of his nightly rounds, Devu is pursued by a cop and seeks refuge at a whorehouse run by a hooker Sarasu, played to perfection by Saritha. Despite her vehement protests, he stays put and leaves only at daybreak, but her persistent cough stays with him. At a theatre, Devu watches an advertisement for Glycodin Cough Syrup and proceeds to buy her a bottle. Devu and Sarasu bond over the cough syrup and philosophize late into the night, exchanging notes on their immoral lifestyles.

Actress Saritha comes to a small town to talk to Vaishali (Jayapradha), because she is about to play her in a film based on her life. Vaishali suffers from hysteria and angrily shuts out Saritha. The story is now told in flashback, when Vaishali's brother reveals to Saritha about her marriage to Kumar (Chiranjeevi), consisting of only 47 days, hence the title of the film. Kumar takes Vaishali to a country manor in France. She does not know French or English. Kumar already has a French first wife Lucy (Anne Patricia) living there on the top floor. He deceives both wives. He tells Vaishali that Lucy is a friend, while he tells Lucy that Vaishali is his sister. Eventually, Vaishali figures out his bigamy and does not want to stay with him as his second wife. She does not know of anyone who knows her language and who can help her escape Kumar.
