The Golden Cane Warrior (marketed as Pendekar Tongkat Emas domestically) is a 2014 Indonesian film directed by Citra Award-winning director Ifa Isfansyah (Sang Penari).
Produced by Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza of Miles Films, the film features some of Indonesia's most prolific actors, including the Citra Award-winning actors and actresses Christine Hakim (Di Balik Kelambu, Tjoet Nja' Dhien, Daun di Atas Bantal), Nicholas Saputra (Gie), Reza Rahadian (3 Hati 2 Dunia 1 Cinta), Slamet Rahardjo (Di Balik Kelambu), and Prisia Nasution (Sang Penari). Rising stars Eva Celia and Tara Basro are also featured on major roles.
The film revives the martial arts genre which has not been present in Indonesia's film industry for years. While it depicts martial arts and violence, the film explores themes such as loyalty, integrity, ambition, and betrayal. It was released on 18 December 2014.Synopsis
Cempaka (Christine Hakim) is a martial arts master known as The Golden Cane Warrior. She has four disciples: Biru (Reza Rahadian), Gerhana (Tara Basro), Dara (Eva Celia), and Angin (Aria Kusumah); all of whom are the children of the enemies she defeated in the past. She plans to bequeath her powerful Golden Cane along with the ultimate technique which has helped her to be undefeated to one of her four disciples. She eventually chooses Dara, who initially feels uneasy about being the heir to the Golden Cane, to be her successor as The Golden Cane Warrior.
