Synopsis
Pothen Vava tells the story of Vava, the son of Kurishuveettil Mariamma, a lawyer popularly known as Vakeelamma. In his village Palliyangadi, frequent clashes take place between the Vaddakkeyangaadi group led by Kurishuveettil Mariamma and Vava, and the Thekkeyangaadi group led by Pulikaattil Vakkachchan and his sons Anto and Paul. However, Vakkachchan's youngest daughter Gladys, who had been a junior to Vakeelamma when the latter was a practicing lawyer, is now herself a lawyer and with the tacit approval of her father, stands by the Kurishuveettil family in all lawsuits.Acteurs

The central character of the film is a spiritual leader played by Nedumudi Venu who has devotees all around the world and who received a telephoned death threat. He reports the incident to Police Superintendent Haridas Damodaran (Mammootty) who initiates an investigation into the source of the threat. In the meantime, other important people are being murdered; the investigation later reveals that all of the victims were college classmates. Police arrest a suspect named "Christy" (Suresh Gopi) on murder charges. Proving whether Christy or an unknown perpetrator is the culprit forms the basis of the rest of the investigation.

Chandran (Mammootty) is a truck driver and Ravi ( Mukesh), the cleaner of the truck. Chandran is very affectionate towards Ravi, for whom, Chandran is like an elder brother. Chandran spends most of his leisure time in booze and women, while Ravi is busy in saving all the money, as he has got a family. One day, Ravi gets a letter from Remani (Jalaja), his wife saying that there is festival in the village temple set to happen for the coming Friday and she requested him to be there .Excited Ravi sets out to his home with all the cash he has saved as he has plans to build a house and to be there for at least two months. But on his way back home, he was killed in an accident. Chandran arrives at the village of Ravi, with his dead body. He finds out the miserable condition of his family and decides to stay for a few days to financially assist Remani and help her fulfill Ravi's dream house. But during his stay, he gets involved in several social issues. He slowly joins the job of ferrying sand under Kochu Varkey, a rich businessman of the area. But, with time, he enrages Kochu Varkey (Prathapachandran) and his son Sunnykkutty (Vijayaraghavan), invites animosity from them. Rajamma ( Seema), a bold and independent lady who makes a living by running a tea stall falls in love with Chandran, but certain unexpected incidents happen in the life of Chandran that turns everything upside down.

A hangman is brought to central jail to hang Hyder Marakkar (Tiger Prabhakar), a notorious criminal with terror links, but he is killed in a road accident. DIG Marar (Janardhanan) smells foul play and arrives at Kamakshipuram along with Jose Nariman (Suresh Gopi), a smart young police officer, to meet Narasimha Mannadiar (Mammootty), a revered village lord and member of the royal family who had once ruled the hamlet. The train No.20 Madras Mail to Madras starts from Trivandrum Central. R.K. Nair (M.G. Soman), a Kollam-based businessman takes the first class coupe of the train to Madras with his wife Geetha (Jayabharathi) and daughter Devi (Suchitra) from Kollam Junction. Tony Kurushingal (Mohanlal), along with his friends Hitchcock Kanjikuzhi (Manianpilla Raju) and Kumbalam Hari (Jagadish) boards the same coach from Kottayam. Tony is the son of a wealthy businessman, Kurishinkal Kariyachan (Jagannatha Varma), Kanjikuzhi is a detective novelist and Hari is an young politician. The three of them are going to Madras for seeing a cricket match and to make attempts to make Kanjikuzhi's novel Vaazhikuzhiyile Kolapathakam a film. All the three are heavily drunken while boarding the train. After entering the train and seeing Devi, Tony and friends make several attempts in getting a seat for Tony in the same coupe of Devi, with the help of TTE officer Nadar (Innocent) but with little success. While doing so Tony gets into heated arguments with RK Nair and Sunil (Ashokan), who has a reserved seat in the same coupe (from Ernakulam) as that of R.K. Nair. Actor Mammootty boards the train from Thrissur and gets into the same coach. Nadar leaves the train at Palakkad after giving company with Tony and gang and the new TTE Chokalingam a.k.a. Choki (Jagathy Sreekumar) enters the train. Tony and his friends visit Mammootty in his coupe and soon become friends with him. Meanwhile Tony tries to flirt with Devi while she returns from the toilet, which causes Tony to land in trouble with R.K Nair but Mammootty cools the scene. All goes to sleep late night.

A gang led by Aliyar (Thilakan) holds a grudge against Police Officer Haridas (Vishnuvardhan) who was responsible for the death of Antony's (Mammootty) wife and daughter as well as Aliyar's Wife and two daughters 12 years ago and sent Antony to jail. When Antony is finally freed, he reunites with his old gang and they plan to kill Haridas. Antony then discovers that his daughter who he thought had died is actually still alive and was raised by Haridas as one of his daughters. Antony meets his long-lost daughter but Aliyar and gang are not ready to leave Haridas. Antony pleads to the gang to leave Haridas alone but fails to stop them. During the struggle, Antony gets shot by Aliyar and in his defence kills Aliyar.

The film is about a spoiled brat Kuttapayi (Mammootty) and his young friends. Kuttapayi is the son of Rappayi (Thilakan), a rich miser. Kuttapayi make all sorts of trouble in his village. One related to a snake boat/dragon boat race made him and his friends to exile to neighboring state. Kuttapayi has a illegimate daughter which is unknown to him, she is taken care by his father through a servant. The servant (Balan K Nair) takes money and land and promises to Rappayi to care of Kuttapayi's daughter. The servant uses the money and land for his own growth and pushes Kuttapayi's illegitimate wife to prostitution. When matters get hairy the servant tries to sell Kuttapayi's daughter too to prostitution. Kuttapayi comes to know about the situation and saves her and loses her mother in the fiery process.
