Donald MacBride (1893 – June 21, 1957) was an American character actor on stage, in films and on TV who launched his career as a teenage singer (making several recordings in 1907) in vaudeville and went on to be an actor on Broadway. He appeared in nearly 140 films between 1914 and 1955. His year of birth is given variously as 1889 or 1893 in the standard reference books, but the latter seems to be the correct one as his New York Times obituary records his age as 63.
MacBride was best known for his portrayal of detectives in crime films. One such role was as Sgt. Roberts in the 1941 comedy Topper Returns, starring Roland Young. He also did several slapstick roles in films with comedians such as the Marx Brothers.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and died in Los Angeles, California.

Bill Miller (Dean Martin) est un acteur qui s'est mis à ne plus avoir de succès après avoir mis fin à son partenariat avec un autre acteur nommé Ben Bailay (Richard Erdman). Il croyait avoir de grandes possibilités pour travailler seul mais bientôt il commence à se rendre compte que ce n'est pas le cas. Et non seulement il a échoué mais pire encore il est tombé dans la misère ; son impresario, Leo Lyman (Eddie Mayehoff), lui donne alors l'idée de s'associer à un autre partenaire qui lui servira de faire-valoir. Suivant le conseil il arrive, après de nombreuses tentatives, à trouver un nommé Ted Rogers (Jerry Lewis), sans prétention et timide. Ted au commencement ne savait pas qu'il servirait de simple faire-valoir à Bill Miller et qu'il serait au second plan quand ils joueraient ensemble. Le test pour voir si l'idée réussirait est pour Miller de placer Ted au milieu de son numéro, mais celui-ci fait spontanément rire toute l'assistance qui prodigue des applaudissements.

Pollack, an underworld gambler, is murdered, but before he dies he hides $50,000 that he just won gambling in a newspaper and kicks it under a car. The next day Sach and Slip are walking in the street and find the paper and the cash. Gabe, who is a reporter, runs a story on them finding the money and the gangsters that Pollack won the money from come looking for them. One by one they take the money from the boys and are immediately killed by the mysterious "umbrella". Eventually the boys get tired of having the money taken from them and people dying around them so they hand the money over to the police. The "umbrella", not knowing that they boys no longer have the money, comes to collect it from them and is captured by the police who were staking the boys hideout waiting for the killer.
