The story is about the critical role of Timmarusu (Gummadi) played during the reign of Sri Krishnadevaraya (NTR). The story begins with the pattabhishekam of Sri Krishnadevaraya. Before the function, he participates in the dance and music function of Chinna Devi (Vijayalaxmi). They get married and becomes his first queen. After coronation, Timmarusu arranges the marriage with Tirumala Devi (S. Varalaxmi) daughter of Srirangapatnam kingdom. Timmarusu slaps him on the cheek to remind him about the kickbacks while seating on the crown. He plans to attack Gajapathis of Kalinga kingdom lonely. Knowing about this Timmarusu reaches Kalinga and protects him. Pratraparudra Gajapathi (Mukkamala) wanted to kill him with the help of his son Veerabhadra Gajapathi (Prabhakar Reddy). However his daughter Annapurna Devi (Devika) openly opposes it and loves him. In a political dialogue, Prataparudra agrees to marry his daughter to Krishnadevaraya. After the marriage, he plans to kills him. With the help of Timmarulu he comes out of danger. They reach the Hampi with Rani Annapurna Devi along with Hamvira (Lingamurthy). Annapurna gives birth to Tirumala Raya. Hamvira creates differences between Krishnadevaraya and Timmarusu and kills Tirumala Raya. He convinces Rayalu that Timmarusu is the culprit. The court on the instructions from Rayalu orders to make him blind and imprison him. Before Rayalu Knows the fact, the punishment is implemented. However Timmarusu pardons him and their relationship continued.

Surendranath (ANR) is the son of Zamindar (Ramanna Pantulu) who wanted to go abroad for higher studies. His parents do not agree, hence he decides to leave the house. He reaches Madras in search of a job and gets a place in the house of a traditional family as a teacher. The daughter of that house is Madhavi (Bhanumathi). She takes care of every need of the family. Surendranath's behaviour surprises her and she starts to like him. Surendranath tried to talk to her personally. As a result of some misunderstanding, she openly expresses her dislike. Unable to bear the insult, he leaves the house and meets with an accident. Her elder brother (Ramana Murthy) gets married. Surendranath goes back to his Zamindari. His father dies making him the Zamindar. He marries Janaki. Diwan (Lingamurthy) mismanages the finances. As a result, Madhavi loses some property. She wanted to meet Surendranath, but Diwan refuses permission to meet him. She comes to know that he built a village Madhavipuram on her name and felt happy. While verifying the records, Surendranath finds out the mistake happened. He wanted to meet Madhavi to request her pardon, in spite of his illness and finally dies in her hands.

The main characters in the film are in the public service, most of them in corrupt, negative roles, and there are many villains instead of one main villain. Dharma Rao (Gowrinatha Sastry) is the Chairman of the municipality. The municipal contractor, a local businessman, and his associates make up the rest of the corrupt cast. They use their influence for their own personal ends in secret. The municipal counsellor, however, Ramadasu (Lingamurthy), who is also a newspaper editor, is honest and uncorrupted. The story is based on innocent people cheated by rich people. This film is about an ideal man Sivaram (Nagaiah), who lives happily with his wife (Raja Kumari) and two children. They like music very much and want to make their children musicians and singers. He is a responsible bank employee by profession. He goes to Bombay for financial transaction and gets money. He is trapped by Dhanaraj (Lingamurthy) and got into the attraction of beautiful Leela (Vidhyavathi). He loses the bank money and gets into jail. By the time he returns, the family conditions are poor. He is even prepared to do some dirty jobs for the sake of his family. His children gets encouragement from Balananda Sangham and shines. He gets out of his problems and joins the family.

Anugu, the King of Palnadu has three sons - Nalagama Raju, Narasinga Raju and Malideva Raju. He anoints Nalagama Raju as the king under the care of his minister Brahmanaidu. A wealthy and powerful woman Nagamma enters the kingdom. Progressive minded Brahmanaidu allows Harijan entry into temples and appoints Kannamadasu, a Harijan as the army commander. This hurts the upper caste people and also the prince Narasinga Raju, who seeks the help of Nagamma. In the King's court, Nagamma accuses Brahmanaidu which leads Malideva demanding a division of the kingdom. Nalagama Raju divides the kingdom and gives Macherla to Malideva Raju, with Brahmanaidu as his adviser. Nalagama holds the Gurajala under the control of Nagamma. She conspires to unite the country and make Narasinga Raju as the king. Malideva is invited for kodi pandelu (cock fight), the loser to leave the kingdom and live in exile for seven years. But after that period, she refuses to hand over the kingdom to Malideva. She has plotted to kill the emissary Alaraju, son-in-law of Nalagama. This results in war and the annihilation of almost the entire clan. In the war field, Nagamma realizes her mistake and seeks pardon from Brahmanaidu.

Thyagayya (Nagaiah) is a villager composing devotional music to Rama while rejecting the court of Serfoji, Maharajah of Tanjore (Narayana Murthy), the dominant cultural center of the region. Turning down invitations and gifts from the Maharajah, he provokes the jealous wrath of his brother Japesen (Lingamurthy). The film's climax comes when Japesen destroys Rama's idols, Thyagaraja resurrects them eventually and sacrifices his life to his God.

Murthy (Nagaiah) is a publisher happily married to Kalyani (Jayamma) and the proud father of their children. He watches a street play in his village, and notices the beautiful Subbalaxmi (Bhanumathi) in that troupe. He advises Subbalaxmi's father to take her to Madras where she would have the potential to become a big theatre artiste. He even refers them to a theatre company. They travel to Madras. Subbalaxmi is offered the lead role and changes her name to Sujatha. Murthy falls for Sujatha's charms and neglects his family. Kalyani fends for her children by taking up small tailoring works and leading a hard life. At the end, Murthy realizes his mistake and returns to his family.
