I'll Take My Chances is a 2011 Nigerian dance romantic drama film, produced by Emem Isong and directed by Desmond Elliot. It stars Ini Edo and Bryan Okwara in lead roles, with Sam Loco Efe, Jide Kosoko, Ini Ikpe, Ashleigh Clark and Abiola Segun Williams in supporting roles. The film's synopsis says: "Tradition demands that a troubled young woman take the position of priestess of the land or else allow calamity to befall the village. She refuses to accept her fate and is further convinced not to heed custom's call by a handsome stranger".

The film premiered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on 24 September 2011, before its general release on 24 February 2012 and was met with generally mixed to negative critical reviews. It received five nominations at the 2012 Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards, winning the award for "Best Costume", and also got three nominations at the 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards, receiving the award for "Best Edited Movie".

Synopsis

Ikechukwu (Bryan Okwara) and his girlfriend, Giselle (Ashleigh Clark) travels to Lagos from the United States to set up a dance group, they are however met with disappointments after attending several auditions without being selected. IK is posted to the village of Ikot-Uyai for his NYSC, with the hope that he'll work his redeployment back to Lagos in a few weeks, but his request is however refused. Idara (Ini Edo), a village girl enjoys dancing so much; her father, Chief Ekene (Sam Loco Efe) takes her to the priest, concerned about her behaviour with the suspicion that she might be possessed. The village priestess eventually reveals that Idara must become the next priestess of the village, lest calamity would befall the entire village.

The film revolves around two Casanovas, friends and business partners; Iyke (Joseph Benjamin) and Bernard (Desmond Elliot), and a divorce lawyer, Delphine (Monalisa Chinda), who is a divorcee herself and doesn't want to have anything to do with men again. The film narrates the story of Mrs Badmus (Abiola Segun Williams) who owns a multimillion business empire (Da Costa Holdings), but her son Olumide (Desmond Elliot) is very wayward and is not interested in running the business. Mrs Badmus eventually reveals to her son that she is dying of cancer and she has few months left to live. She gives a condition that if he wants her to be happy, he needs to get married to Hope (Uche Jombo), the financial director of the company and a very dedicated employee. Mrs Badmus also feels Hope is the perfect wife that can keep her son's wasteful spending in check when she is no more. Olumide orchestrates a plan with her girlfriend, Sabina (Nadia Buari) and Olumide starts to fake his love for Hope, waiting for the day his mother will die. However, Mrs Badmus' Will states that Olumide has to be married to Hope to have her properties; If anything otherwise happens, Hope should have the properties. Olumide has no other choice than to marry Hope, but however frustrates her with everything after wedlock, while still going out with Sabina. Hope, who continues to play a good and faithful wife despite her husband's attitude, finds out that she is also suffering from Leukaemia. Olumide eventually falls deeply in love with Hope, but it is too late because she now has few months left to live.

The film opens at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with a phone conversation between Mr. Makinde Esho (Femi Jacobs) and his Managing director (Jide Kosoko). Makinde is reminded by his MD about how important it is for him to get an authorization from the Ministry of Land, and return to Lagos with a positive feedback. Just as Makinde is about to board a Taxi, he is interrupted by Ejura (Linda Ejiofor), a female Corp member who pleads for a Lift, as she is short on cash and there is a long queue at the ATM. Makinde refuses at first, but after much persuasion from Ejura, he reluctantly agrees. Even though Ejura had promised earlier to keep mute during the ride, her inquisitive nature gives Makinde facial expressions that prompt answers and eventually start a conversation.
