Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd., was founded on October 29, 1962, in Mumbai, as a book circulating library, and today they are an established integrated media content house in India with activities across content acquisition, value addition to content and content distribution. Ghatothkach is the company's second animated film, which they co-produced with Sun Animatics.

Their Content Library consists of more than 2,500 titles spanning new Hindi films like Ishqiya, Slumdog Millionaire, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Omkara, Dil Toh Baccha Hai, Chandni Chowk to China, Bheja Fry 2, amongst others. Hindi film classics like Mughal-e-Azam, Shree 420, Mera Naam Joker, Amar Akbar Anthony, Namak Halaal, Kaalia, Madhumati etc., titles in various other regional languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali among others as well as non-film content. They are one of the largest independent content aggregators in Bollywood and CGI animated films like Bal Ganesh. Maaza Navra Tuzi Baiko was Shemaroo’s first film in the regional category which was the highest grossing movie in Marathi Cinema for the year 2006.

Today, Shemaroo is an integrated film production, post production, distribution and animation studio.

This is a family story. Jhoomri and her husband, Bhimsha, move into a new neighbourhood. Their immediate neighbours are three squabbling couples: Vijay and Anjali who are newly married; Appu Khote and Vimla, who are married and have four children; and Ravi and Meena, who are married and have one child. Slowly the husbands are running out of money so they trick their wives and go out for a vacation. Meanwhile their wives are struggling to pay their rents and decide to work even though their husbands told them not to. When the husbands come back, they kick their wives out of the house since they got jobs. The wives go to live with Jhoomri and Bhishma.

This is a family drama which is portrayed on a background of Durgapuja, West Bengal's biggest "Utshob" (Festival). The story is about a cultured Bengali family, different members of which have gathered in native house on the occasion of Durga puja. Bhagbati (Madhabi Mukherjee) has four children; two sons Asit (Pradip Mukherjee),Nishit (Bodhisattva Mazumdar) and two daughters Parul (Mamata Shankar)and Keya (Rituparna Sengupta). It is the festival time and all the children’s are at the main house to celebrate the festival. Meanwhile, Shishir (Dipankar Dey) a relative who is also a big real estate agent is interested in buying the house. Most of the family members want to sell the house. None of the sisters are looking forward to the family reunion as they all are more concerned about their own problems. Furthermore like any large family, every member of the family has his own personal past, skeletons and demons to confront.

However, Kabir takes a liking to Nisha and to the dismay of Indu, marries Nisha, wanting an obedient and socially accepted wife molding to the traditional conservative norms as Nisha constrained to, compared to Indu, who was liberal and progressive in her views and behavior. After marriage, all seems well in the life of Nisha and Kabir and soon, Nisha becomes pregnant. Then Arun returns, and Seema is overjoyed to see him, but is hesitant to tell him about what had occurred. Arun takes Seema to his home, and introduces them to his family, namely his mom, his sister, Priti, and his brother-in-law, Prem. Seema is stunned and shocked when she sees Prem, for she recognizes him as the man who had raped her.

Childhood turns into adulthood and one day both attend a dance function organised by the Indian Railways. This is where Ashok and Vinod fall in love with two beautiful women: Seema (Hema Malini) and Sheetal (Parveen Babi). Ashok is now deeply in love with Seema and they are planning to get married after their engagement. Vinod is married to Sheetal and they have a son Raju. One day Vinod, who is now a top notch railway engineer, gets awarded with the contract to build a super-fast express train between New Delhi and Mumbai. Rakesh (Vinod Mehra) is his assistant. Randhir, the losing engineer and ex-lover of Sheetal, swears revenge and leaves.

The killer kidnaps Amit's son and demands the evidence that he has got. The only way to save his child is to unravel the mystery of the killer's identity. A thief named Shyam (Amitabh Bachchan) who has made stealing his career decides to go straight after the death of his mentor (Madan Puri). On the run from police for committing a series of robberies in the past, he ends up in a village and he comes across a poet named Deepak (also Amitabh Bachchan) and comes to his aid. Taking advantage of the fact that Deepak is his lookalike he decides to steal his identity by killing him. He backs out of killing him however when he discovers Deepak is already dying of an illness. After Deepak's death he decides to steal his identity and informs the police that Deepak is actually the thief Shyam. However a police inspector (Ajit Khan) who had tried to capture Shyam after he committed a robbery becomes suspicious that Shyam is actually alive and masquerading as the poet Deepak.

The Government of India granted Rs.50,000/- to Prof. Harbanslal (A. K. Hangal) to conduct a study in the mountains bordering Tibet with India, called the Nangla Project. Harbanslal is sure that within these ice-capped mountains lies an entire temple made of pure gold. When Vikram Singh (Ajit) and his son, Bahadur (Prem Chopra), find out about the Nangla Project, they abduct Harbanslal in order to force him to reveal the exact location of this temple, in vain though and end up killing him. Having failed in this venture, they kidnap the wife and son of multi-millionaire Rajendra Jain (Sajjan) and demand that he get Bahadur married to his daughter, Ritu (Hema Malini). Rajendra discusses this matter with Ritu, and Ritu is ready and willing to do anything for her mother and brother. Rajendra hesitates, and soon he receives his wife's thumb in the mail. Losing no time, Rajendra and Ritu make arrangements for the marriage and communicate accordingly with the kidnappers. Soon a wedding date is fixed, however, things do not go as planned as Ritu is abducted by a man called Natwarlal (Dev Anand) and taken to his hideout. While driving there, their car breaks down and they are forced to take a lift from Jimmy Fernandes (Vijay Anand), albeit at gunpoint. Jimmy drops them off at an isolated spot, leaving Natwarlal to work out the details of getting the ransom money from Rajendra. Before that could happen, Jimmy shows up and abducts Ritu. With his wife and son still held captive with Vikram and his son, Rajendra is at his wits' end as to whose life he should give priority to. Watch as events unfold to show what exactly was the motive in Ritu's multiple abductions, who is benefit by these incidents, and its connection with the Nangla Project.
