Soorappa (Kannada: ಸೂರಪ್ಪ) is a 2000 Indian Kannada drama - action film directed by Naganna and produced by Super Hit Films. The film stars Vishnuvardhan in his 175th film along with Charan Raj, Shruti and Anu Prabhakar in the prominent roles. The film had a musical score and soundtrack composed and written by Hamsalekha.

The film is a remake of Tamil blockbuster film Maru Malarchi (1998) directed by Bharathi and starred Mammootty and Devayani.

The film released to generally positive reviews from critics and was one of the biggest hits of the year 2000.

The movie revolves around a Tamil pop singer Inderjeet based in Bangalore who has a large female following. The movie opens with the death of a back-up dancer, Sandhya, in Inderjeet's group and soon a police detective is put in charge of the investigation. Although the police suspect Inderjeet as he is very short-tempered, they have no evidence linking him to the crime. Meanwhile Divya, Sandhya's elder sister, arrives at her aunt, Dr. Prabhavathy’s (their dad's elder sister) house to find out the truth about Sandhya's death. She goes to meet Inderjeet but is put off by his arrogance. She also talks to his manager, Dr. Harichandra Prasad, and other musicians who all have differing opinions about Sandhya.

The story opens with a kidnapping of an architect (Avinash) at night. He is whisked away to a secluded location where he is tortured by unknown assailants for information regarding the structural details of a bank which he helped build. When the torture reaches excruciating levels, the architect gives in and shares the confidential details of the security alarms and safety devices in the bank. It is shown that the leader of the group called Dev (B. C. Patil) is a terrorist and will stop at nothing to get the bank's money to further his group's operations. It is also shown that he commands a strong team of at least 20 deadly terrorists.

The movie starts with a fight in which Durga Prasad bashes up police for occupying the house of a poor woman. Dhanunjaya Rao (Raghuvaran) comes to know the heroism of Durga Prasad and tells him his flashback. Dhanunjaya Rao and Chandra Sekhar (Charan Raj) are the best friends. They have a kid each. If Chandra Sekhar does not release goon, he would be getting a promotion and prize money worth 5 lakhs from the Government. At the last spurring moment, Chandra Sekhar becomes selfish which results in the death of the son of Dhanunjaya Rao. Due to this incident Chandra Sekhar becomes an enemy of Dhanunjaya Rao. The wife of Dhanunjaya Rao gets paralyzed. Dhanunjaya Rao's aim is to kill the son of Chandra Sekhar.

A minister of Andhra Pradesh Cabinet named Kalamoorthy is removed from his post after the Central Bureau of Investigation proves his involvement in Liquor Mafia and the Election Commission of India declares the first by election after the main elections of that term in that constituency. While a senior ruling party leader Saradhi (Bharath Reddy) is willing to spend ₹25 crore for the election, other senior members ask Sanyasi Naidu (Charan Raj) to shell out ₹50 crores and if he wins in the by election, he would become the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Since it is his ambition to rule the state, Sanyasi Naidu accepts to spend ₹50 crores. With the help of his trusted aid, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sanyasi Naidu brings ₹50 crores to India through Hawala transaction into Old City in Hyderabad. The ACP is tasked with transporting the money to the constituency. On completion of the task and if Sanyasi Naidu becomes the Chief Minister, then the ACP would be promoted as Inspector General (IG) of Police. The ACP goes to the Old city to collect the amount and the money is wrapped in big black plastic bags and is placed in the Deck lid of a Black Innova.
