Fali Mistry (1919 - 1979) was a noted Indian cinematographer, who worked in Bollywood films, from 1940s to 1980, both in black white and colour cinema, and along with younger brother Jal Mistry, he was one of most acclaimed cinematographer of his era . He also produced and directed a few films.
He won the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer twice, Guide (colour) (1967) and Fakira (1977).

Samir Sahni is a farmer living with his mom, dad, wife, Rama, a young daughter, and his younger brother, Veer. Samir gets an offer to work in the U.K., and departs accordingly. He would like to settle there, and after doing so, would like his family to also join him. The years go by, and Samir keeps in touch with his family regularly. Then the Sahni family stop receiving any letters from him, and are anxious to know what has happened to him. Veer is asked to travel to U.K. to find out, and he does so. What he finds are tens of thousands of East Indians on fake passports, working for less than minimum wages, poor unhealthy conditions, fear of being deported, and paying half of their earnings to fellow East Indians who had got them here through the underground. Veer finds no sign of his brother, and sets out to investigate, only to find deceit, murder, and his very own life in danger.

Heera (Dev Anand) has two passions in his life, namely his love for Reema (Raakhee), an air-hostess, and photography. Prashant (Dev Anand) sa sœur Jasbir (Zeenat Aman) sont deux indiens élevés à Montréal. Ils comptent beaucoup l'un pour l'autre mais sont finalement séparés lorsque leurs parents divorcent. Afin de rendre supportable la perte de Prashant par Jasbir, leur père décide de laisser croire à la petite fille que son frère et sa mère sont morts. De son côté, Prashant se promet de devenir pilote d'avion afin d'aller retrouver sa sœur au Canada. Seize ans plus tard, c'est à Katmandou que devra se rendre Prashant, sur les indications de son père qui vient tout juste de reprendre contact avec lui. Jasbir, qui s'était enfuie du Québec en volant de l'argent à son père et en décidant de changer de prénom (elle devient « Janice »), vit au Népal parmi des hippies, dans une communauté Hare Krishna où les drogues et la musique l'aident à oublier sa propre vie.

Ramdev Bakshi (Dev Anand) is a peaceful, quiet man who is only interested in wildlife and nature. He is sent then to the Indo-Chinese border in the army by his father, a war hero. Here he refuses to lift his gun and attack. He is then court-martialled. Later he is captured by the Chinese and humiliated, but when a beautiful Chinese agent promises him a better future by working and spying for her (against India), he agrees but foils their wicked plans by spying over them. Later the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 breaks out. He joins in the action to show what he is made of by killing Pakistani soldiers hiding in the bushes in an Indian village in the Khemkaran sector.

Sita (Waheeda Rehman) and her friends go on a trip. Sita sleepwalks and when she is about to be hit by a train on the railway track, Ram (Manoj Kumar) saves her. Impressed, her father decides to get her married to him. After the marriage, Sita discovers that her sleepwalking is not a simple sleepwalking as it takes her to the story of her past life - Chitrasen (Raaj Kumar), an artisan, is in love with the princess Sita (Neelkamal in her past life). Ajay Mehra (Joy Mukherjee) is on a secret mission to Kashmir to counter Kashmir rebels right after Independence. While on mission he is injured due to a bomb blast. A young girl Asha (Sadhana) from a poor family is forced to flee for her own safety following an attack on her house by Kashmir rebels. She comes across Ajay who is injured. Two Adivasi tribes are in conflict for the local economic rights. The daughter of the Nagi tribe's chief, Mala (Vyjayanthimala) vows to kill the son of the Ragi tribe's chief, Sanatan (Pradeep Kumar) as revenge.
